Just spoke to Simon, he's still in the hospital. Thus he couldn't really speak long. But by the sounds of it, he has broken/fractured his elbow as feared.

He's going to ring me back later so ill keep you posted...

Cheers,

Adam

I think he was a Dynamo Stu. He'd received a few shouts during the race for swinging off wildly and easing up as he did. Anyone coming up the right of the peleton kept nearly getting taken out by him. Some of the calls came from very big fellas as well. :)
It's always surprising how people manage to cause crashes on what must be the widest straightest finish around

Mmmm, Palace felt much safer, even in the opening laps when the large bunch was still together.

i think people must become a bit complacent , then probably start to loose there concentration and low and behold....a not so agreeable crash.

Just spoke to simon again, he has indeed broken a part of his elbow. After going to St. Peters hospital in Chertsey he transfered to Lewisham (nearer his house, yet at the cost of £100 [ouch!])

After many xrays and consultants later, they have decided they need to operate on it. To place wires between his Bicep and the Offending piece of bone that has become detached. He is still in hospital waiting to be plastered up so he can go home overnight. They hope to operate within the next couple of days.

He will however be off work and off the bike for 3-4 weeks (which isn't as bad as he nor many others including myself thought). And the doc days he can get on the turbo a few days after the op. Though i think he is keen to get his bike properly checked out as you mentioned Andrew. The problem is Simon works on building sites (i can't quite remember what exactly he does, but obviously he can't do any manual labour while his elbow is on the mend). So any advice on British Cyclings insurance cover regarding being off work due to a crash would be greatly received...?

Thanks,

Adam

BC have an accident help line...I'll try and dig out the number. They are really helpful. I used the insurance on my BC membership when a car ran me over last winter.

here's the BC accident help line:

0161 274 2015

Although i think you need to have the Gold membership to claim for damage to bike and medical expenses during a race accident.

I believe that if you are concussed for no more than under an hour or so, which seems to be the case from carl's post, there's every chance that there is nothing serious to worry about. I hope.

Oh dear! I hope everyone recovers quickly....

Just to pick up on one of Matt Ives' posts and to set expectations - the BC Accident helpline support members vs non-member claims - e.g. if you get hit by a car whilst out on the road. However, during racing the only cover you get is 'third-party' - e.g. if a rider damages a car during a race and the rider is at fault. There is no cover for rider-on-rider incidents. It's kindof part of the sport.

Let's hope people are out and about and enjoying riding again soon....

Cheers Matt, ill pass that on to Simon tomorow. Im pretty sure he's a Gold member anyway. He's not so much after compensation from the rider that caused the crash, just wondering whether or not the insurance will pay out on a 'loss of earnings' basis...?

There are on the plus side some awesome photo's on http://www.cyclingphotos.org.uk showing the carnage, but also fantastic shots of the Addiscombe train in action. World domination is ours! Maybe we should try for a wildcard for the Tour!
