Just to pick up on one of Matt Ives' posts and to set expectations - the BC Accident helpline support members vs non-member claims - e.g. if you get hit by a car whilst out on the road. However, during racing the only cover you get is 'third-party' - e.g. if a rider damages a car during a race and the rider is at fault. There is no cover for rider-on-rider incidents. It's kindof part of the sport.

Let's hope people are out and about and enjoying riding again soon....

Cheers Matt, ill pass that on to Simon tomorow. Im pretty sure he's a Gold member anyway. He's not so much after compensation from the rider that caused the crash, just wondering whether or not the insurance will pay out on a 'loss of earnings' basis...?

Bloody Hell! Sorry to hear about the crashes guys I hope you all make speed recoveries especially Simon, the two Matts and Stu. Quite naturally they'll be some people put off racing having read this thread. DON'T! On the whole crashes don't happen that often and bad crashes are even rarer still

Re the insurance thing, I'd be surprised if you get anything from BC. If membership included Personal Accident cover for racing the membership costs would have to be higher to cover the insurance premiums.

Normally you'd need your own PA insurance typically to cover loss of earnings. I don't know about the building trade but would expect there is some cover from the employer but will probably be more of a standard personal liability policy and cover an accident at work, on site.

Here's a plug for the firm I used to work for.
B&CE specialise in looking after people in the building trade (Building and Civil Engineering) , hence B&CE. They are base in Crawley, and advertise most weeks in The Sun, Star, Mirror, etc. They DEFINITELY cover accidents however caused, including accidents whilst engaged in sporting activities.

It's really eerie seeing those crashes frame by frame, bodies flying in the air then all tangled up with bikes. It must be even more for those directly involved in the crashes. I feel glad though that those falls haven't put me off in the slightest - hope it is the same for you all.

The only way to be safer though is going to be making those breakaway attempts work!

it hasnt put me off, and i hope it hasnt put off any would be racers. if you think about it, say there were 90 odd people there and only 4 of us crashed, thats usually pretty good odds its not you. but sometimes your just a bit un lucky!

i found it pretty intresting seeing it frame by frame. almost adds a bit of closure to it all, knowing what it looked like etc etc.

Again, what race were they watching? I am not happy about this. Looking at the pictures i think they show i was clearly top 10. Can i challenge these results? Otherwise its out of order.
