BTW I'm not sure why, but I particularly enjoyed the one hour bit I did (guess it was being back on a bike after 3 weeks) and TBH all my injuries felt a whole lot better after the ride

Top stuff Marco. One gear, no suspension, who needs all that modern stuff!

BTW What's the easiest cheapest way to put a MTB together? Wouldn't use it that much (but interested in joining some of these Sunday runs) so don't want to spend much (ultimate budget build ). E.g don't care if it's 2nd/3rd/4th hand, paint chipped and scratched. All I'd want is something that worked and was fairly basic, definately want hard tail, no discs (for simplicity and obvious cost reasons). Probably better to get gears than singlespeed. Don't want anything too heavy and some of the cheapo bikes seem to weigh a ton.
Thanks for any advice (any ebay searches confuse a bit as I don't know about MTBs or which equipment is decent, so can't really filter the good from the bad).

Does anyone know of an old crate that they/friend want to get rid of and would fit a short-arse? (I'm 5'6" - is that a 17" MTB frame?)

looks like you had a great time, it seems a bit funny seeing all you townie types supping tea in my neck of the woods.
The downhill from the top of Reigate hill to the school has been ruined by the local council in their bid to improve it, all that track ballast really grabs yer wheels.
I am up there tomorrow . North downs way is 8 mins from my door!

I've got a pair of brand new (still in package) of Michelin XC dry which I will very reluctantly sell for £12 each if it helps someone get into the wonderful world of off-roading in Croydon !
