After the Brighton ride yesterday my legs felt good for an assault on the palace circuit. Great to see so many Agreeables racing easily the greatest number of club riders present today.
Got up near the front from the start with Sylv who was doing loads of work.
Today no one really wanted to get on the front and do much work, everyone kept pulling over or easing up, I did note this in the back of my mind for later.
Rounding the bottom sweeping corner on about the 2nd lap I was up front saw my mum & dad so waved at them, I got my coordination all wrong and my left pedal hit the deck with a load bang, my back wheel bounced as well as my heart, Boy was I lucky not to come off!
Paul H came up with a bit of a charge, but other riders reeled him back in, then I slipped back down the pack a little to hide my Attack launch, and necked an energy gel.
2/3rds of the way up the climb I went for it up the outside giving it 100% effort, rounding the sharp corner after the start straight, I couldn’t believe I’d pulled out 100yards.
No one came to play with me so I kept it going solo, really grimacing in pain for the first couple of laps and going all out every time up the hill.
The gap was getting bigger each lap; I think I went a little crazy around some of the bends, and was smiling and whooping to the spectators.
Ding ding last lap looked back and they were out of sight whooppeee, I knew I had finally done it and crossed the line with arms aloft.
It was nice at the end everyone shook my hand in congratulation, really good feeling of club camaraderie.
