First assault on the club 50 team record. RichV will be most upset if we get it

Could be some interesting battles - Paul has Robert as a target to catch three minutes ahead, then Dominic should start shortly before Robert & Paul come past the start line onto their second lap.

Have you seen the weather forecast for Sunday

I'm glad I'm only doing a 30 even if it will involve 15 miles solid into a headwind

The weather forsecast that I saw said it was only going to be a 16mph wind  However you can never believe a bloody weather forecast, as we commented on Monday, 'I can guarantee there will be no storms tonight' circa 1987.

I have just realised though that with the closing date for the National 50 being 22/05 if I don't do a reasonable ride I might not get a ride in it, so no pressure then!

Why do you think I'm riding a 50 so early in the season :?:

Good luck. I reckon anything under 2 hours will do

After dreadfull weather forecasts all week for Today, it was looking a bit more promising by yesterday. Much lower winds, but rain moving in from the south. When I looked out the window this morning the roads outside were dry and the trees weren't moving so it was looking good. But as I drove west to the Surrey/Hampshire borders the roads were a bit damp in places, but nothing actually falling.

My start time of 8.26 came and it was still dry. Number 25 was a DNS, so I had no minute man to chase, so my first target was #24 two minutes ahead. Caught him at about 6 miles, then #23 at about 15 miles. By this time it had started raining and things were starting to get soggy. But my average speed was close to 25mph, so things were going well and a 2 hour ride or thereabouts was on the cards. :D

Then around about 17 miles... pssssst, thud, thud, thud. Rear wheel puncture. My philosophy is that if you puncture in a TT up to and including 50 miles your race is over, so I don't carry a spare. So, started walking back to the HQ until someone took pity on me and gave me a lift. Hope they don't mind the wet patch I left on their back seat  .

All four other agreeables finished:
Dominic Lowe 2:03:38
Paul Tunnell 2:04:36
Robert Royle-Evatt 2:06:29
Mike Ingram 2:16:28

Hopefully Dom & Paul's times will be enough to get them into the National 50.

I had identified this one as a possible opportunity to achieve my '50' target for the season of under 2:10. But by Tuesday I knew it was not going to happen, given the weather forecast. Metcheck was predicting rain from 9am and, sure enough, 11 minutes into my ride (a few taps on my Campag Ergo Brain telling me it was 8.45am) the first drips came.

By the first turn I was off the pace and by 20 miles well off it. But I had seen Jon walking back to HQ by then and decided I would at least finish. I was no longer interested in my time. And, when you're doing a time-trial, not being interested in your time is the kiss of death.

So, any positives here? Of course. A course best - first time I've ridden it, see. And my tyres held up better than Jon's.

Well having had similar feelings to Jon about the weather I was not happy when about 30 seconds into my ride the rain started and just kept on. Not that I was bothered at this point. By about an hour into it with standing water on the road it was another story and I could hardly get my bottle out of it's cage my hands were so cold.

I thought at the start that my pacing was going to be a bit off but by the time I tried to raise the pace with 8 miles to go I thought I was going to throw up so I must have had it about right

Lost concentration just before halfway and began thinking I am not doing a 100 and I am certainly not doing a 12 but soon got back in the zone. Just before Lawrence Harding came zooming past me again a la Addiscombe 25.

Finished and on the way back to the HQ had a back wheel puncture so had a .5 mile walk back. I would have changed the tube as I was carrying a spare but I couldn't because of the state of my hands. Just like it took me about 10 minutes to unpin my number. I had get Jon to put a couple of the safety pins back together because I just couldn't.

All in all very pleased with my time. Fingers crossed for the National and I have just posted off my entry for the ECCA 50 on 27/05.

Some good rides in what appears to have been pretty awful conditions. Having read the reports I was lucky to be a bit further north.

You should be fine for the National with that time Dominic. Mike you should think about putting in an entry for the National as well. It would be good to have an ACC mob there.
