not just a scratch!

After getting of lightly at the chertsey pile up,i took my bike down to up and running today where i purchased it to check out the only 'scratch' on the bike and they confirmed my worse nightmare.that scratch is infact a crack in the carbon frame. With no race insurance i'm f****d :(.I'm sure your all insured but if any one isn't insured to race do it it's only peanuts compared to a new carbon frame.
I'm hoping that the shop can wangle it on the years warranty for a new frame
So won't be racing for a while, will have to dig the old allez out for the club run,and next time will defo have insurance!

Oh sh1t, sorry to hear that Carl. I hope you can wangle it on warranty. :(
Do you have general usage insurance? If so could you not change the location of the crash.

Being so close to my holiday I didn't want to tempt fate so used my commuting bike, never been so glad. It picked up a few scratches which I'm not bothered about, and I needed to fit new bar tape. Rims got a bit of scoring but I need new wheels on it anyway as the braking surface was already worn concave. That's all so far, until the forks explode on the way to work one day. :D

Have you got all the thorns out yet? I've still got a couple in my hands I can't shift, but they're gradually working their way out. One got infected and was sore but a quick stab about with a needle shifted it.

I had gold BCF insurance last year but only took silver this year which means I only have third party.

Then again I think even gold doesn't insure for racing (is that right?)

As for bike warranty, yes better say it wasn't in a race as it is generally excluded from warranties.

Bottom line is I'm not sure what is the best way to protect yourself from this kind of situation.

good move only taking the training bike that day andrew, seeing as your going abroad for a sportive.Yes i still have a couple of those nasty little things in my back and shoulder and a slightly stiff neck, bruised leg etc.
Fool that i am i wasn't even insured third party(apart from BC public liability insurance),so have learnt a lesson.
I looked into third party theft and accident insurance the other day which would cover me for time trials as well. With the value of my bike it would cost about £150.00 plus another £50 per year or so for race insurance which covers complete replacement etc,so at that price not to bad i think!
