Read through the instructions - amazing what you get for £40 these days......

Riding on normal roads - no closures :?:
Road signs and marshals at major junctions.
Obeying ALL highway signs etc - i.e. STOP at RED lights.... :? Hmmmm
Free WATER  at the 5 stopping points, but can PURCHASE  tea, cakes etc at the FINAL one.
Showers at the end (LIMITED) - oh and you have to PAY  for them
Parking at the Finish - in public car parks (PAY)
Lose your timing thingy and it'll cost you £10

Don't get me wrong, I tried to pay and get an official ride, but I'm beginning to think someone is taking the ***** at £40 a rider.

I agree it does seem a bit like money for old rope , but i suppose taking part in a little bit of history makes it almost worth it

I hope they have half a brain (but I doubt it) and put same club riders together. Bloody ridiculous if they split us all up but they'll probably view it as a security risk.

I agree it sounded a bit of a con at the start but entered for the same reason as Apples, not many chances to do this officially, but it sounds like the usual standard of British organisation has every chance of making it a farce.

Lack of closures is just plain ridiculous, particularly as they are saying make sure you obey all highway code rules etc. Ride out of Central London in the middle of traffic stopping at all red lights. I can see that happening with such large groups of riders. Dodge the busses and taxis..... Piss up /brewery :?:

Especially when BCs justification for such a charge is the high cost of insurance. Now how many riders on the event do you suppose are BC members who have already paid for insurance as part of their membership? Quite a few I should think.

Anyway, by comparisson the Legbreaker Challenge in the PEAK DISTRICT is charging £20 entry - fully marshalled and electronically timed. post race hot meal, free showers and parking, roving support vehicles along the course, event t-shirt for all starters, a course that visits the highest village above sea-level in England AND all proceeds going to the air ambulance.

Now that's worth the money.

Just got this from the organisers

[quote]If you all put down your club name as your team when entering then you’ll be allocated similar numbers and hence the same start time block

Once we know our start time I''ll let you know and we could accidently on purpose team up with the "unofficials" outside Grenwick Park

I can't believe what you're suggesting here

We would never condone such behaviour. But just in case we happen to be coincidentally riding around the area at the time, we might just ride along with you in the same direction
