Medway Velo Club 25

I was the only agreeable in this one, down in Kent around the Ashford/Canterbury area. I hadn't ridden this course ( Q25/8 ) before, all I knew was that it was on single carriageway A-roads, and as it was a Spoco SE event it was probably going to be a bit lumpy. Didn't have time for a drive around the course, so was riding it blind.

Started well enough, catching my minute man a 7 miles and two minute man by halfway. Shortly afterwards I got caught by the guy a minute behind me, but he didn't seem capable of pulling away. Over the next couple of miles we passed each other three times, as I was faster uphill and he was faster on the flat and downhill. I think he must have overcooked it a bit to catch me once he had me in sight. Eventually he started to gradually pull away, which was a relief, as few more miles of cat and mouse could have seen us DQ'd for taking pace.

Finished in 1:00:09, which was a bit annoying because one of my season goals is to go under the hour on a sporting course. That was 10th on the result board when I left the HQ, with a few results still to come in, so probably 12th or 13th out of fifty-odd.

Are you sure your chain didn't come off?

Seems to be the normal excuse these days 8)
