When Saturday Comes...

Postby Graham O » Thu May 17, 2007 1:57 pm

Chaps,

Contemplating a long hilly ride on Saturday to try and put some miles in the bank before the Dragon Ride.

I am hoping to get up early and do one of the following;

1) Brighton (Only 1 hill though), but phsycologically quite easy as you have got to get there and back.
2) Surrey Hills (too many hills to contemplate) and many oppurtunities to cut it short.
3) Old Pots Reliability ride down to ashdown forest with a hard ride back.

Finally, could wimp out and do the club run..

Anyone else thinking about a longer ride this weekend...

How early?

I'm leaving at 4:30am to ride out to cheer on our riders in the SCCU 10. You could then carry on to Bognor/Worthing

Carl - I am kinda planning to do these longer rides for the next few weeks.

Paul - Does 04.30 count as morning. I think that's still Friday Night isn't it. I'lll be leaving at my normal commute time (i.e. 7.30) ish.

I will probably go to brighton along the London to Brighton Bike Ride route. I will probably come back up through devils dyke, where I fully expect to get lost.

Wll your post did say "early"

A nice route is to head up to Twineham/Wineham after Devils Dyke, cross A272 to Slaugham, Handcross, Pease Pottage and pick up return of clubrun.

Sorry I can't join you but have a 10:30am appointment

Thanks for the route Paul. Didn't mean to upset, but I guess my early isn't really that early.

I saw you post about heading down to the coast on the 2nd June. I will probably be heading out for my last long ride before Dragon Ride that weekend, so would be up for it...

Hal,

Thought you would be resting after last weekend. If you are interested, I will head down to GB's for 7.45.

Ta,

OK I will see how I feel. Yeah I was going to take it easy but if the sun is shining and I feel good.

Don't wait more than 5 mins, I may be feeling lazy.

What is the L2B route?
I also need to get some miles in before the Dragon and UK Etape. My commute helps, but only if the Dragon has 20 miles of flat A road with a bus lane.

Quite a good trek down to Brighton on Saturday. Weather was pretty good, if not for the annoying side wind.

I was fully prepared to be riding down to the coast and back on my own, but to my surprise Wal and Steve (I'm crap with names - Hope I'm right) were waiting at GB's. Weather was good and I felt OK.

We rode down on quite a direct route so got there in reasonable time. I tried out my new 27 gear up ditchling and I have to say that this spinning malarky is not for me. Wal following my wheel up for the first half, then decided to have a go and passed me. When you are spinning on the 27, there is just no where to go but down the gears. By the time I had worked this out Wal was dissappearing up the road. I managed to catch him up before the top though.

After a burger on the beach, we headed home. By this time Steve was feeling the pace, so we took it easy until be got to pease pottage. Steve went directly back through Crawley, whilst Wal and I went to Faygate and the Club Run / Box Hill. Wal then hammered it all the way to the bottom of box hill and up it as well. I held my own until box hill and the rest is history..

Anyhow got my own back on the run down into Coulsden. I think I went down there as fast as I have ever done.

Not sure about next week. I will be up for a Brighton run in 2 weeks. I may do the club run next week, or could be tempted into a run down to Ashdown forest. These long rides are going my fitnes the world of good. I am finding that I am feeling better when I approach the 80 - 90 mile point. It was quite pleasing to be able to hammer down the valley to coulsden after 90 miles.

Really cool ride and thanks Wal and Steve..

Hal,

Apologies, I seem to have spelt your name with a 'W'. Goodness only knows where I got that from.

Wgraham,

That Ok.

Great ride, I think that I only go fast because you keep coming past me so I think.. hmm must be going too slow so will speed up a bit.

Steve hope you got back alright.

Will be out next weekend but not sure what day as I have to tile the bathroom :(
