Brighton and back

Postby Steve W » Mon May 21, 2007 2:15 pm

A big thanks to Graham and Hal for their encouragement on my first
Brighton and back

92 miles at 15.8 av Im happy with that for a first go and looking forward to doing it again now my legs have forgotten the pain.

Glad I did the direct route from peas pottage, had a lovely smooth ride round Gatwick and up to Redhill getting home to Croydon for 3.15 pm in time to watch the football, which was so boring I fell asleep.

Im still wondering how I managed to get home at that time

Definately going for a compact after pushing a maximum 23 cog all the way.

Carl,

Don't really fancy going down to the coast, but could be tempted into a trip down to ashdown forest (via penshurst etc) and back via the club run if this is possible. That would probably be quite close to 100 miles. Otherwise, I'll just do the normal club run.

I would want to head off early though and be back for 2 o clock. Let me know if you fancy..

Ta,

Graham..

Carl,

Good Stuff...Meet up at 7.45 at elmers end.

Plan would be to do 3 hours ish and get to Charlwood in time to catch the club run train back via box hill.

I did the route of the Old Pots Reliability run a few weeks ago. Thats mostly still signposted and will take us out round the back on Tonbridge and then up to the Top of Asddown Forest via Penshurst and Groombridge. We can then make our way over to Charlwood somehow. I'lll bring a map...

Anyone else ?

Ta,

Graham.

I might well be interested in this.

Where is elmers end, and where abouts do you meet?

If I'm not there within 5 min I'm sleeping and will be in the club run.

Hal,

Elmers end is a little tricky. Best to give a map location. You can go via Crystal Palace and down Anerly hill (ppast the entrance we use for Palace races) and across a few sets of lights and cross roads. When you get to the T-Junction at the bottom (Elmers End Train Station on Right),turn left and then wait at the bus stop on the far side of the funny triangular shaped roundabout (after 200 yards).

Multmap Location is..

http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi? ... x=3&in.y=9

Be goood to get a few of us. It will make the grind up to the top of Ashdown a little easier to take..

Pace on Sat am?

Postby neilb » Fri May 25, 2007 3:31 pm

Hi guys

Am interested in coming but I'm slower than you guys judging by postings here. I can ride happily in the 17's without fuss, sometimes the 18s but over the distance planned for tomorrow, a bit slower of course.

The furthest I have ridden is 120km (recently) as I'm tri training at the mo. That distance was fine, I'm sure a further 40km is achievable subject to the pace.

Reason for this posting is that I don't want to hold anyone up or spoil anyone elses ride. Please can you give me a clue if i should come along? I won't take any offence if it's a 'no' cos you'll be going quicker.

Cheers

Thanks chaps, I'll leave it. Have a great ride.
