hitched a lift with with adam and got to the sign in at about 7.10, just as they were about to stop new entries.
had to sprint over to the start line as the comissar said they would start without me.
anyway ii got there on time and the race got underway. it started off fairly smooth. most people doing a share at the front. gradually people stopped coming round, and soon it was left to me george paul and a couple of others to pull the front. because of this lack of cooperation we soon got caught by the 2nd cats. trouble was that when we were caught i was doing a long pull on the front and i nearly got dropped!
well i managed to hang on and for the remainder of the race i stayed in the pack, within the top 15 or so, but well sheltered.
all too quickley the last lap came round. the pace didnt change much but more people were trying to get to the front, and attacks were going all the time. george and paul h gave a couple of good digs but to no avail. my tactic for the last lap was to follow paul T. so i did and sure enough i found myself in the top 7 with about a mile to go. then the pace REALLY shifted up a gear. i stayed on the outside so as not to get boxed in. with about half a mile to go i was in the top 4 but the man in front was already sprinting so it was a big effort to hold the wheel in front, and every little rise i nearly dropped off as i had no feeling left in my legs!!....
after what seemed like an eternity we came round a right hand bend and up ahead was the finish line!! george and paul t came passed me...200m to go and it was a full on sprint. i was in the top 6 and i was nearly able to come round george. unfortunately a chap from evans who was on the right but ahead of george decided to give up 50m from the line as i was about to make my move. he drifted back and i was pinned in. for the last 40 m or so i was in the saddle (although still giving it some welly) it was a bit frustrating, but by no means dissapointing!...so i bagged 5th or 6th, though more likely 6th, but im pretty pleased as it was against a lot of 2nd cats too! george would have got 4th....but thats nothing...the real good news is mr tunnel bagged 2nd, he was 2 bike lengths clear of the rest of us battleing it out with a 2nd cat. it was a REAL close one!!
so not a bad night for addiscombe 2nd, 4th and 5th/6th (probably more 6th).
cheers
