Eurosport's Giro coverage

Postby Brian Nolan » Wed May 30, 2007 11:48 pm

Anyone else fed up with Eurosport's Giro coverage ?
I waited for the Giro highlights tonight but they had the bloody tennis highlights on instead and they don't say anything on the tv guide until the slot is over .. I think this happened last night as well but i gave up & went to bed halfway through the tennis highlights so I can't be sure.. The only reason I got cable was for Eurosport and the cycling.. Might as well cancel it & use cycling.tv instead ... anyone subscribe to this service and is it any good ?
I know people moan about Duffers , ( he rambles on too much for me and is crap at calling whats going on ) but I like David Harmon ( is that his right name ? ), and Sean Kelly's commentary....
extremely cheesed off with it...
rant over :x

hi Jon,

Cycling.tv is a subscription service on the internet so you would need broadband to see it but I will have to have a look at the site & see what they offer..

cheers,

I agree on Eurosport, I went to bed an unhappy chap calling tennis all possible names under the sun.

But i don't think cycling.tv is that great an alternative... I subscribed to it when i went to uni... but you don't get most italian races, nor the tour, nor the ardennes classics. So i don't know what the answer is. However, when the race is on, the covergae is ok. But you do need a very good/fast connection.

Eurosport only bugger up their own schedule because they stay with sports when the over run, like the cycling. Which often overruns by 20mins or so as the peloton didn't take enough drugs during the day. So its acceptable to see that the highlights are dropped for this reason. If you have Sky+ the record the live program plus whatevers on immediately after then fast forward through the boring bits...

I've complained about this one on several occasions - to Eurosport direct and through my cable company.

Believe it or not I think British Eurosport's coverage has improved this year! But that's not saying much is it!? So all the complaints might have done some good. At least we get most of what they say they're going to give us most of the time and we get more highlight shows - morning and evening. That said it is bloody frustrating when live handball or beach volleyball takes priority over the cycling without any notification of what's happening. :x

Cycling TV is free but you have to subscribe to get anything worthwhile and you get a faster data rate. Cycling tv doesn't seem to be able to get hold of the races it used to but its Vuelta coverage last year saved the day when Europants's coverage was totally unreliable or at times non existent.

Cyclingfans.com shows live streaming of most major races (including the Giro)

Great Giro so far - yesterday's stage superb!

Have fun

I was disappointed with the lack of live coverage of a couple of the main classics. Re the Giro coverage, and others, we have to accept that cycling is a minority sport and they have to devote time to other sports as well. As Adam pointed out if something over-runs you don't cut it short, we'd soon get annoyed if you lost the last 10k of a stage to go to the table tennis on time.

I've found the best bet is to video the live broadcast with a good hour or so buffer either side (LP obviously). Then I just watch it when I get home from work. If it's not toschedule you still nearly always get it because of the generous over allowance on time. Fast forward through bits you don't want, eg you just want the last 30k.

Good stuff yesterday, that Zoncolan  . Thought Cioni was going to keel over sideways at one point.
