A few of us were approached by a guy called Jimbo at the Palace on Tuesday night. He knew Joyce and was singing the praises of an ACC rider by the name of Ron Shade, who, apparently, was king of the Palace!
Anyone know who he was and what he used to do that was so great? Or was 'Jimbo' pulling my plonker?!

OK so I've been around a long time 
Ron Shade was an absolutely animal track sprinter when I joined ACC, and I watched him win at Herne Hill a number of times. I also remeber seeing him ride (and win) at Crystal Palace, when they were using the "full" motor racing circuit.
He seemed to drop out of racing in the late 70's but was often see riding around the Croydon area.
