Addiscombe vs Norwood Paragon 10/07/07

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Addiscombe vs Norwood Paragon 10/07/07

Postby Jon H » Wed Jun 13, 2007 10:39 am

Tuesday 10th July is the date for the annual grudge match against our old rivals the dastardly Norwood Paragon. The format is a 10 and a bit mile time trial on a hilly course based at Bletchingley. The times of the fastest 6 riders from each club count for the inter-club trophy.

After a very close victory for the Addiscombe in 2005, NP came out with all their big guns blazing last year in the form or all their 1st & 2nd cat roadies. I managed to hold them all off and take individual victory, but for the team prize it's strength in depth that counts. Two can play at that game, so we need to muster all our troops and regain the trophy.

All you fast guys, come out to play at Bletchingley and make up the Addiscombe dream team for the night.

The Bletchingley course is well suited to road bikes as it doesn't seem to have a flat bit on it and even better suited to the climbers as it has a few short sharp climbs in it. Ideal for the Palace crew so give CP a miss and come and help do over the Paragon :P

I've so far failed to make it out to an evening 10 this year, but should be there. I might not make it into the top 6 though, especially if the road racers show up.

I'll be there for this Jon, although as usual will not trouble the "counting" riders.

Sylv, it's just your type of course and a 20-minute effort will just stretch your legs nicely for the crit next day :!:

Does sound better than Palace as a warmup yes. What time do you have to be there?

First rider off at 7.30pm. Let Jon know you are going to ride and he will normally produce a start sheet a day or so before with actual start time.

Sylv... have you pre entered Guildford yet?

Im gonna do both i reckon, a 10 is hardly gonna knacker you out is it! Just have some recovery drink or something! I did a 50km 3/4 race at hillingdon before Crawley but i don't reckon it had that much effect.

Lets regain this title boys!

Go for it you guys, its a great course, i use it all the time albeit my course is a little longer and far too slow to even comprehend a ride..... but i promise you all i will cheer you on from the dog and duck!

This course is tailor made for George, Paul,Jon and Ringo (Stu) and the 5th beatle Adam

Well suited to road racers who like the odd hill. I think someone said last year the Paragon RR use the circuit as their training loop, no wonder they knew it so well  .

From memory:
Longish drag up the main road through Bletchingley
Over the bridge
Left down a steepish long decent (good fun this bit)
Sharp left
Flat / rolling bit
Left in to drags / flat with a couple of hills
Finish is at the top of the second hill

Course GS/335 (the S stands for Sporting :D ) looks like this.

It's actually a 10.7 mile TT rather than a 10.
If you want to ride it beforehand the start is in the mouth of Waterhouse Lane at the western most junction with the A25, and the finish is at the 30mph signs (both sides of the road) 530 yards before the T junction with the A25. (TT Course details are very specific when they mention the start and finish points  ).

I believe there's a 21 mile sporting TT at the start of the season on this course where you continue up to the A25 turn left and do another lap. If you like the course you may consider it for a good training ride/race beore the season starts (if it hasn't by then). Jon would be able to tell you when it is.
