The clouds spat threateningly but the rain held off and another good night's racing was on.
To ensure the unlicensed novices got a good race the officials made last week's B/novice arrangements a little more official and asked Maria and myself to swap our B cat numbers for novice numbers. As we have licenses we could still ride up in the B cat races, but to all intents and purposes were classed as novices....which suited us fine.
As I was swapping my numbers I missed the first race (an AB race) but was up for it in the novice Devil and was dead chuffed to come 4th. I cunningly tried to box people in and generally be difficult to come around, and it all worked OK until the penultimate lap when my legs just couldn't hack it anymore and I just missed out on getting into the final sprint.
That was to be my one moment of glory and my legs felt pretty knackered after that. I started all the available B or novice races but dropped out of some of the B ones after getting completely blown away.
The novice 3 lap dash was fun. Maria and I hadd just been caned in the B 3 lap and thought we could have a break, but then they stuck an extra event in for the novices. They let Maria and myself set off first and we tried to nail it from the off - working a hard thru'n'off. It was just coming up to my turn on the front when I saw the pack approach. Fearful of being stuck at the bottom of the track as the pack came past I decided to swing up early and sit at the top of the track to be able to drop down as the pack came through...so I abandoned Maria to her fate...friendly huh? As it happens she was able to jump in with the group anyway and I did not judge the dropping down procedure too well so had to work really hard to get my wheell ahead of Maria's on the line.
Hope to see some more Agreeables there next week.
