Home in South of France

Postby mrP(Boonen)VT » Fri Jun 15, 2007 1:16 pm

I am seriously considering purchasing a property in the South of France, and have been looking at different areas, and thought I would throw it open.....Would anyone be interested in using it if it were:

1. Near to Geneva (airport access)
2. Bourg D'Oisans (base of Alpe D'huez)
3. Montpelier (further south but access to sea and mountains)

Obviously no commitment whatsoever, just gauging opinion.

Why does it need airport access? Surely you will be riding there and back.

#3 has the advantage of being a year round cycling destination, whereas #1 & #2 could both be a bit cold and snowy in the winter. Unless you like skiiing of course, in which case they would be ideal.

Bourg d'Oisans definitely best option in my opinion.
Access to all the big climbs and great for paragliding.
Spent many happy holidays there camping.
Easy access from Grenoble. Also have a cyclist friend who has a chalet in Maronne who could handle any overload. Bugger of a climb back up each evening though !!

Also forgot to mention it is an easy drive from Calais. Leaving Dover on 8am ferry, usually driving into Bourg d'Oisans by 7 pm. Motorway tolls though, but 4 sharing with a roof-top bike rack still comes cheap.

I guess you'll get more for your money moving away from Provence Paul but then it won't be as easy to rent out (if that's what you want to do). If it's near the Alpe then you can rent to skiers who normally have money and won't mind paying more for a good position.

I'd consider using it wherever it is.
