Palace 19/6

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

met office:

[quote]It'll be a dry start but localised heavy thundery showers will develop later in the day, with some torrential downpours possible. Some bright spells in between times though. Maximum temperature 24 °C.

The tension is killing me!

:D

Speaking of will you, won't you - There's another CBC this weekend Sean and you still keep promising that it's on the agenda, so when will you? You're not in Calais anymore I know that.

No Sean Saturday. John C "Super 25s" and co, plus poss other speed groups. There and back in time for the Nocturne.
Expect you've got a bit of DIY and decorating to get done in the near future.
Hope the Addiscombe posse (it's not just George is it?) kick bottom in the market.

The view from Palace 15" into the race tonight

No need to say race was curtailed. Crash at the back of 3/4 just before but thankfully no ACC (Kieran, Adam, Simon, Richard, myself and Jon in E/1/2) hurt.

just checked, we managed to get in 8 laps before the race was called off, pity as a nice sized field ~ 45 riders in the 3/4th cat. Nice cycle home, not. Naturally when I got home the rain stopped

Well how frustrating was that!?

My first race back after my crash and i only got 15mins in, for a tenner! Oh well, so i actually felt ok fitness wise, maybe not so good on the bike handling though. Confidence noticably lower compared with pre-crash Adam. Oh well, it will come.

As a result for the first 7 laps i was moving towards the front, but was noticing that the track was getting greasier. As a result i decided to take it easy and let myself drift towards the back of the race. Low and vehold one lap later the crash happened on the bottom bend. If i had have been two bike further forwards i would have been down, again.

Somebody somewhere was looking down on me with a smile last night!

Anyways, the heavens then preceded to completely open. That was that, i was going to stop anyway after the crash (as im off on holidays on saturday and didn't fancy spending a week in the alps with a broken collar bone!) but so did everybody else.

Number in, back to the car. Where i sat in the boot of my car getting changed. So first race for 3 weeks and what do i forget, a bloody towel! So there i was using the the collection of slightly dirty golf towels i use as rags to protect my bike in the car to dry myself off!

Anyhow, Mainly just frustrated that it will be another two weeks until i race again, meaning a total of 5 1/2 weeks out of racing. Not good. Im hoping for a real late season charge now!!!

Yes it's a shame, the rain would have made it even more exciting (but not so good when people come off in front of you) and slowed down the pace a bit which can't be bad! I think there was a bit too much of it though - riding down Crystal Palace hill in the worst of the storm afterwards was a bit scary, as even with the alloy rims I had virtually no brakes and there is a traffic light halfway down - thankfully it went green just as I approached - otherwise I would've had to resort to emergency braking measures (ie feet on the ground)!

Don't want to think what riding down the steep Welsh slopes would be in that weather.

 Getting up the hill would have been even harder than normal riding against a river.
