RichV & I ventured up to Hertfordshire last night to ride the London St Christopher's 10 on the super fast F20/10 course.
The weather was looking dodgy and could have gone either way. If the wind had dropped it could have turned into one of those warm, humid & still evenings that give super fast conditions. Equally likely, the heavens could have opened and given us a good soaking. As it turned out, it stayed dry for us, but was quite breezy.
A pretty fast field of 100 riders, the slowest of whom had a PB of a mid 22 I think. I was off at #52, with Rich 3 minutes behind me. 50 & 51 were both DNS, so I had nobody to chase.
From my warm-up, I was expecting a headwind on the way out, so I gave it some welly on the way out and was pleased to be cracking on at well over 25mph all the way. But after the turn the expected tailwind home didn't materialise and it felt just as hard on the way back. That probably meant it had really been crosswinds.
Anyway, finished in 21:58 which is my 2nd fastest 10 ever, so I'm pleased with that, even though it's just over a minute slower than my PB set on the same course last year on a suberbly fast evening. Rich did 20:57 which again is about a minute away from his PB.
