BDCA 100 - new club record

Postby Tamar » Tue Jun 26, 2007 10:29 am

Was up in Derbyshire on Saturday for the BDCA 100, on a lovely flat course. Mr PVT sadly had his entry returned, but Rich V and myself were riding for ACC with El Presidente, Joyce, handing out bottles and encouragement. She also VERY generously handed bottles to Keith C despite the fact he's a Bec rider. But obviously Rich and me took priority.

It was 3x30 mile laps with an extra 10 mile bit stuck on the first lap. Started into a short tailwind section and was flying, then turned into the headwind for the first time and discovered it was pretty windy. But my legs felt supple and I was eating and drinking well and by the end of the first headwind section my avg was 21.6mph....and I only needed to avg 21 to beat the club record. By the end of the first full lap having had the advantage of the tailwind my avg was up to 22.3mph. I was feeling pretty confident. 2nd lap went well but the wind picked up even more and I started to tire on the 3rd lap and was feeling pretty sick of energy drink. Shovelled a couple of fig rolls down my face and thought of Amelia - I'd told Marek I would dig deep for her. Kept it together for the remainder of the headwind section then turned for the final blast of 13 miles with a tailwind. Screamed along at 27mph and watched avg rise from low point of 21.5 up to 22. Crossed finish in 4.32.56. V v pleased.

Got trounced by lots of v speedy women, but had achieved goals of eating/drinking properly, not finishing in tears and beating the previous club record of 4.48.

Rich V had a pretty decent ride and skipped under 4hrs with a 3.59 something but didn't look too pleased with it.

Keith also rode well for new Bec CC record of 3.47.06.

Huge thanks to Joyce - couldn't have done it without her.

Well done Tamar and to everyone who rode up in Derbyshire. You said it was windy but did the rain hold off?

So a record for you and one for Keith as well.

Yes, the rain held off! What a relief.

Club records for me and Keith so good day out.

Plenty of faster riders though. Didn't hang around long enough to see all the results in but 3 women way faster than me (4.16 - 4.20) and Kevin Dawson had done a 3 30 or thereabouts. Smashing course though. Worth the long drive.

Superb result by you all. I saw the result on the CTT website this morning. Very impressed!!!

Would like to know why Richard looked unhappy, is that not a PB for him?

I'd thought it was a pb, but then heard conflicting stories that it was/wasn't.

Don't recall Rich mentioning it on the day. Mr Viney - please clarify - was it or was it not a pb? Was I mistaken in thinking you did not look too chuffed with it?

Personally I think getting under 4hrs is blimmin' brilliant.

Excellent stuff Tamar, just the 12 hour record to go is it?

I'm fairly sure that's also a PB for Rich too, but he was probably going for a club record too, hence the non-chuffedness.

Not sure what 15 record is but whatever it is I don't have it...although am entered for the KP 15 this w/e (on tandem AND solo) so maybe...

Haven't cracked Joyce's 30 record yet - had a go last month but did not pedal hard enough. Darn.

I'm considering doing a 12hr later in the year....but reserve the right to wimp out. Will see what state I'm in after the SCCU 100 and also whether I can fit in enough long training rides.

It was a pb and should have been happy about beating 4 hours for the first time :)

I was distinctly unchuffed as it should have been a lot quicker. Fell right off my schedule between 75 miles and 87.5 miles and it was too late to get things back by the time I'd pulled myself together.

Sorry Tamar no 15 record for you to beat, it not being a recognised distance and all that - will have to be the 12 hour

Fantastic results. Well done Tamar on another record, and a sub 4hr for Rich is mighty impressive. :D

Well done Tamar - I'm very pleased for you.

So the weekly caning at Herne Hill is definitely paying off now :)

For some strange reason, 15 miles is a standard CTT distance for women, but not for men.

It may be recognised by the CTT but it hasn't been by the club (as far as I know) and hence no club record is recorded.

Competition record is 32.15 so you may have to pull your finger out Tamar rather than cruising round like Saturday

Hey - great stuff - Steady on there Tamar there'll be none left soon 8)

Rich - you must be well chuffed going under four hours.

No pressure for the SCCU 100 then
