API 50 - 14th July

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

API 50 - 14th July

Postby richv » Tue Jun 26, 2007 12:42 pm

Can anyone else be tempted to come along and ride this one :?:

Rumours of a new superfast course have been confirmed with 50 miles all on dual carriageway and most of it on the superb E2/10 and E2/25 sections.

Jon, Rob, PVT, Mike, Tamar :?: Dominic can you be persuaded to do a warm-up for your 100 :?:  Anyone else fancy a go :?:

I've probably got space in the car if anyone is stuck for transport.

I'm considering it, but a 50 on Sat evening followed by a 100 Sun morning could be considered as a rather stupid thing to do.

14th?! :? , I had been considering doing the WLCA 50 on 15th July. Could be persuade to change my consideration, if there is the possibility of a lift. 5pm sounds alot more condusive than 7.00am

Lift shouldn't be a problem Rob.

50 then a 100 could be seen as good training for a 12 hour Jon

A salutory tale for those of you considering back to back Sat pm/Sun am racing:

Keith entered a 100 on Sunday morning, after the BDCA 100 the previous afternoon. It did not go well. His legs were tired, his heartrate was down, it was pissing with rain, his bottle cage under his saddle started to come loose so he rode 15 miles one-handed holding it on before finding a marshal with an allen key....and then at 50 miles he punctured and decided to call it a day.

Neil Skellern (from somewhere up North) did two similarly back to back 100s last year and posted times of 3.45 (Sat pm) and 4.30 (Sun morning).

But hey....if it's only a 50 on the Sat pm...

Whoo...just checked my diary. I have NOTHING on Sat 14 so could enter the API 50. As it's in the pm it won't interfere with dinner (and drinks) at a friend's on Fri night, nor will it matter too much if I don't do brilliantly in the Bec 25 on the Sunday morning.

What time is it at? I need to keep a few hours free on the Sat to prepare for the Bec Summer BBQ which Keith and I are hosting on the Sunday pm.

Busy, busy, busy!

It's a 5pm start. Last rider off at 7pm. I suspect the field will be fairly full so if you want plenty of time to prepare the BBQ you can always ask for a late start :!:

Sold on the grounds that it is perfect training for the 12hour :!:

Does this mean Rich that you will join me for the Cheddar Gorge 300 on the 04/08 that I am also thinking of using as training for the 12, or anybody else for that matter :?:

On the grounds that this Sunday is going to be a mess (turn up, get a point, get round, get a time for the SCCU BAR and er, that's it), this is tempting. Where does this happen?

If I do it though, unwritten family rules of diplomacy will make me a DNS for the Bec 25 on Sunday morning.

Mike it's on the A11 just south of cambridge. With a reasonable run through the Blackwall tunnel it's about one and a quarter hours from Addiscombe so a bit further then Horsham in terms of travelling.

Thanks Rich. Oh look! It's not that far from Mrs I's aunt and uncle, so I've put in my entry and will work on getting an invite to visit the in-laws.

I'll check my seaweed and fir cones on the Friday before deciding whether to do this one or the Bec 25.

In a moment on stupidity, I've entered them both
