Thanks to everyone for turning out and making it another worthwhile evening, especially considering many of you had long rides at the weekend. The weather turned up trumps again too. Once again it was nice to see several 2nd claim "old friends" riding and Eddie Mundy back at the turn. Special thanks to Joyce, John, and Snoop for their help, and Jon for organisation. Excellent results!

Were there any pbs? season's bests? first rides?

Carole knocked exactly 1 minute off her pb, Jon nearly a minute off his, I think his son Sam improved his as well. Jo also improved hers I think, and I knocked 11 seconds off mine. There may have been some others but I can't remember.

Didn't feel like a strong tailwind out, but certainly felt a headwind in places on the return so it must have been there. Not a float night though so pretty good going on the number of pbs, I always fine a calm day better than a tail/head wind one.

Where/What time is the next time trial ? It might be time to try out 1 or 2 of these this summer. Not sure if I can get there in time from Paddington though.

Half minute intervals works for me Jon. More carrotts in sight to push you on. Well that's the theory but I had a couple of non starters up the road .

Thoughts on half minute start intervals from a time keeping perspective:
NEGATIVE:
1) There were several groups of riders close together, including one with five riders. I really needed Snoop's help spotting numbers, especially as the Epsom guys came over and started chatting to add to the distraction. So you probably need an extra person to help run the event.
2) It doesn't give you enough time to write each of the split times down, so you have to wait until you can use the recall function.
3) It doesn't give you enough time in between riders to do any calculations.
4) It slows down calculating the individual times (you can't just subtract the rider's number from their return time).
5) Didn't get time to calculate the handicap result on the night.
POSITIVE:
1) Those riding have the prospect of catching (or being caught) more often.
2) The elapsed time for the event is shorter - less weather/traffic changes, and it finishes earlier.

Yeah, good for me Tim, but I can imagine a nightmare for you. Sorry.

Aodan, The next one is in 2 weeks. It's the inter-club against Norwood Paragon and is on a sporting (lumpy) course at Bletchingley. It's 10.7 miles and should suit you (Course details are in the racing section). The big boys of ACC road racing have threatened to do this as well. It would be good if they could as they'd stick in some great times and we could wrestle the trophy back off the Paragon.

The one after that is back on the Holmwood course (A24 near Dorking). That's a Jack 'n' Jill which is a 2up with the man pacing the woman rider, although you could ride it solo if you want to, or don't have a Jill (Maria?).

Arrrrr - there was a mutiny last night - I had tee walk the plank!

As Tim says - nice to see Eddy back on the turn but it did mean me Jolly Roger was consigned tee below decks.

I was worried that I was going to end up a spare part - crivvens I could've ridden if I'd known......

But no - whilst the 30 sec start certainly made for some exciting riding, the bunch finishes were a nightmare fer Timekeeper Tim and yours truly. Arrrr, I tell eee - I need tee lose the eye patch me hearties!

Well done folks - some barnstorming performances, I'll bring back a sack o gold from me Italian Adventure.

Wasn't happy with my time, but ok considering the way my legs felt.

I am going to have to wait over a month for another crack at Holmwood as the Jack and Jill comes the night before I set off for Paris

Seeing as I lead off every week a 5 minute interval would be my fav. Next time I'm dressing up for the part. I'm wearing floppy bunny ears and a rather fetching fluffy bob tail!
