Spud Riley !!

Postby Graham O » Thu Jun 28, 2007 1:28 pm

I have been looking the remaining sportives this year, and want to choose one more to do. Enjoyed the Dragon ride, but I think there is a better ride in me.

I can't make the Black Mountains ride due to holidays.

Has anyone done the Spud Riley. I know its very hilly, but is it well signposted and organised.

I'm doing this one http://www.trailbreak.co.uk/southernsportive/.

It' not until September, so plenty of time to get over the Dragon or do a bit more training, and it's reasonably close.

I'm down for the Spud Riley this year. On the website they say it's hillier than the Polka Dot ride.

I could always be wrong, but I think this may be full already.

Well...I can try.

The posting says that it will be removed when the ride is full...

Spud Riley:
the whole route and all the climbs are fully sign posted and at the start of each climb is a sign describing the name of the hill and the distance to the summit. Food and drinks are provided at two feeding/control points on the route.

Chaps,

Sent my check off for the Spud Riley. I have never cycled in the Peaks, so hopefully it will be fun..

As for others - I quite fancy the southern sportive in September and then maybe the Autumn Epic in early October..

Anyone else fancy doing any of these ?

Ta,

Graham.

Andrew-You up for the 'flyer'
Adrian-nice one,i think i've got a pass from indoors,i havn't booked it yet but loads of places left
Graham-southern sportive i think is the same day as the TOB prologue at CP which i would like to watch as its in my manor so i'm going for the circuit of kent instead the week after
Also got my eye on the ride of the thingy leaves but thats ages away!

er, that's a no. I wouldn't mind tackling the odd sportive but will probably wait until next year and choose a few that I fancy.

I want to try and get my 10 time down a bit this year so have quite a few Saturday alarm calls marked in for TTs.

Should be fine for the Kennet Flyer - broached the subject last night and was met with only mild violence.

Fancy the Autumn Epic, but it clashes with the Falling Leaves. An overnight stay and hideous drive back (AE), or five minutes on the bike to and from the FL? Hmmm, I think I'm close to a decision

Think that the Autumn Epic is rated as a 9/10 for difficulty. The Dragon was a 7/10.

Here is the list of those to avoid / go for dependent upon your point of view.

Event Overall Rating
Tour Of Ireland Cycling Challenge 10
Gran Fondo Campagnolo 10
Nove Colli - Marco Pantani 10
La Marmotte 10
L Arvan Villards 9
La Ventoux Beaumes de Venise 9
Tour Of Flanders (De Ronde van Vlaanderen) 9
Autumn Epic 9
Northern Rock Cyclone Challenge 9
The Fred Whitton Challenge 9
Dartmoor Classic Cyclosportive 9
L Etape Du Dales 9
The White Rose Classic 9
