National road race champs cancelled

Postby huw williams » Thu Jun 28, 2007 9:28 am

F***ing wusses - a few drops of standing water and they cancel the race.

Did they cancel Dartmoor? Did they cancel Hillingdon? Did they cancel Palace? They did not.

Pro's? Pansies more like. Make em race I say :-)

So, if its raining this sunday 5,000 riders should stay in bed and sod the uk Etape - if they don't expect the pro's to ride they certianly can't expect us to go out there. :-) :-) :-) :-)

I have family up that way. It's pretty wet to say the least - some houses are already under water, and more will be affected as rain is forecast for the coming days.

Still, the course for the Nationals goes largely through the Yorkshire Wolds so the riders would have been above the flood plain - Wusses !

There is a severe weather warning in place for the South East all weekend.

They reckon as much as 4 inches of rain could fall in just a couple of hours - so anyone riding, take your waterproofs.

Or better still stay in bed. After what happened on Dartmoor I'm not sure I could take another all-dayer in pouring rain.

Anyone seen the summer or was that week when we were away in Majorca the end of it?

If we get the 4 inches of rain over and done with in a couple of hours that leaves us with 46 hours to ride our bikes in less unpleasant conditions :!:

Seriously, I'll wait until the weekend comes first. We didn't get deluged in Wales when it was forecast last weekend. There's still time for things to evolve.

Re waterproof sandwiches, why not just take a Big Mac - they do excellent plastic food

I'd thought about 'plastic food'. Of course you could wear a Big Mmac too - a bit like a cycle cape.

But I guess the best waterproof sandwich would be DUCK.

According to Metcheck Sunday doesn't look too bad, the odd shower. Saturday looks a wash out though so me thinks I may rethink the ride to register idea.

Bring it on! I'd be willing to do a dawn raid on Carhalton ponds to nab a few of our delicious quacky friends if you'll cook 'em Sylv...?
