Saturday 7th schedule

Postby huw williams » Mon Jul 02, 2007 2:28 pm

As I'm sure you're aware, some of the worlds fastest drug adicts are gathering in Westminster on saturday to begin a race which will take them all the way to the Kent seaside and beyond into France!

That's not something you see every day and should be worth a look!

Based on first rider off at 3pm and last rider finishing around 6.20 - what's everyone doing on saturday?

Idea 1

Club run, dual carriageway, no cafe stop, straight back via Box Hill

Home for lunch and clean up. Travel to Westminster, meet up in the bar at RICS for a couple of sharpners while we watch the slow riders who can't afford drugs on TV - then outside to watch the fast riders who have the best drugs in the flesh.

Comments and alternative ideas most welcome

A sound plan indeed. I'll be there.

Prologue

Postby Tim Coales » Mon Jul 02, 2007 3:05 pm

According to the official publicity, the Caravane begins at 1pm. As there'll be loads of people up there, I'm tempted to go up early to grab a pitch - probably on Constitution Hill junction near The Mall, so you can (hopefully) see them pass both ways. The leaflet shows refreshments and one of the Big Screens in that area. I think I'll go to Green Park and walk, although I might ride my old bike and risk one of the 10,000 dedicated cycle parking spaces, some of which are marked as being in Green Park.

The circuit crossing points closed between 12:45 & 18:30, so take your place early!

Probably no club run for me then!

Here's my plan:

Get Mrs I to drive me to the Bec 10 first thing; send her and Miss I Kentwards with overnight stuff.

Stay upright; do a pb.

Ride back to Big London (clubrun backwards probably); wave cheerily to CR coming the other way.

Shower, shave and shampoo; collect camera, get tube to Westminster, enjoy the atmosphere at RICS etc etc.

Get train to Ashford for pre-Tour barbecue.

Is anyone else (apart from Andrew) doing the Bec - or the 'Prologue de la Prologue' as I think of it?

Just in case you were thinking of buying anything, Geoffrey Butlers is shut on Saturday.

I've got family staying at Hemming towers at the weekend, so we'll be getting the train into Victoria, and heading on foot for Hyde Park. Might be possible to view twice from some points there, plus there's plenty of space for kids to run around if they get bored.

Up at a stupid time to do the Bec 10.

Drive home, Mike if you want a lift to South Croydon I can oblige.

Shower, change, brief kip on sofa.

Then pick up with Huw's RICS plan, possibly with extra sharpners to keep me going 'til I get my second wind.

I was thinking along similar lines, it will be a good place to see it.

What time were you thinking of heading up there? Mind if I tag along?

Sean

I've heard that Renegade elements from Norwood Paragon are paying male strippers to streak in front of ACC marshal points when Boonen comes past. You'll be forced to wrestle the naked offenders to the ground in front of the TV cameras !!!

What with ther promise of a couple of sherberts on Friday evening and TDF to get exited about, don't there's a chance in hell I will make it out Saturday..

However - Sunday is a different kettle of fish. A trip down to Kent, taking in some nice climbs seems the order of the day.

As a marshal for the day I am being briefed at 8.00 am so it looks like a long wait for any action - see you all there no doubt!

I wouldn`t mind doing some sort of club run.

A 9.00 a.m. prompt start might be a good idea. We could then have a quick cuppa and be back at CSS by 12.15-12.30ish.

Have a shower, then up to Victoria by 2.0ish.
