Track advice

Postby Dominic » Sat Jul 07, 2007 6:44 pm

Due to a change in my and my wife's working I may be able to to have a bash at Herne Hill on a Wednesday night :D

However my only experience of a track is a couple of laps of Welywn 20 years ago. My intention is to go to the Saturday morning practice things for a couple of weeks and see how is goes. How long before I can start racing?

And I guess that I need a licence to race as you can acquire points, is that right?

If you're happy racing in a bunch and riding fixed Dominic then you'll be fine to race after doing a session or two. You just need to remember the etiquette about moving and looking.

If you're going to ride regularly you need to get a BC licence. I think there are some novice races which you don't need a licence for but otherwise you'll have to pay for a day licence every time you race which quickly adds up to the cost of a full licence.

For track league you won't get points though.
