this is the 2nd time trial i have done before.
whereas the first one, the presidents 10, i cained it the whole way, i decided to try and ride tactically, if that makes sense
so my tactics- on the flats, and down hills ride at 90% of my max heart rate, on drags go up to 92-93, and up hills no more than 96% to make sure i could keep going down the other side.
so i set off, and then made a stupid mistake, i missed the left turning, and some frantic shouting by the marshal to turn left made me slam on the breaks, skid for 20 ft, then wip the bike round to go the right way. i recon it cost me about 6-10 seconds (excuses excuses)
also another problem was that my heart rate moniter was not working for the first mile, and when it finally kicked in, i was at 97%! so i quickely lowered it.
anyways, no sign of the minute man behind me until 7.5 miles, when i heard someone hit a hole about 50m behind me, i looked back and there he was.
i stuck with him for the rest of the way, yo yo-ing...i would tend to over take him at the brow of hills, and he would overtake on the way down , (no drafting was involved though!). at 8.5 miles i caught my minute man.
then for the last leg it was a hard sprint up a longish hill, and the bloke who had caught me gained about 30m or so on me, (although techinally a minute and a bit )
however i was not too dissapointed, as adam informed me, that my minute man that got me was a 1st cat, so thats not too bad.
i was 3rd out the addiscombe lot. jon hemming was first out of us, then paul hone (although only 19 seconds ahead, and if it wernt for that wrong turning.... ), then me at 28.40, and then adam behind me at 28.42!!
im pretty pleased with that, and it was good fun.
cheers
