CTC Hilly 50K - Alternate CR this Saturday

Postby Graham O » Sun Jul 15, 2007 6:17 pm

Does anyone have details of the route for this ride..

I know that it starts at rykers, then goes up over the hill (forgotten the name) into dorking, then up coldharbour, but can't remember the rest..

PS - Anyone fancy doing this next Saturday..

Cheers,

Graham...

Foldable Route card here.
Can remember most of the route, but you'd have to wait for me at the top of the hills. May be up for it next saturday, let me think on it.

Can't seem to open that Andrew...Quite happy to regroup at the top of each hill.

With my current form I will be relying on this I think.

Afternoon Graham

I assume this is the ride we were talking about in the cafe last week?

Yes I'll come along. You may have to wait for Andrew but the pair of you (and whoever else turns up) will have to wait for me!

Andrew - Energy bars will fill all my pockets and I will make the top of Westhumble even if it kills me this time!

Any ideas what time you want to start?

There seems to be lots of humble pie going around. All these stories of
waiting and stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if I get my ar!e kicked by you young chaps this weekend.

Suggest that we leave with the normal club run, but just head straight down the A25 from Reigate..

I have the instructions now, and am trying to fathom them out with multimap.

I have Thursday & Friday off work this week and am planning to do a couple of long rides on each day - although the weather looks iffy on Friday & the girlfriend is trying to get it off so I am going to bve pretty much exhausted by then (or I could just sit at home and save some energy :)

Spurred on by George's tale, and to get some more climbing in the legs before the Alps, I'll stick my neck out and commit to this one Graham.

I know most of the route without needing the card, and if we collect a few more takers here or at CSS then we should be able to fill in any gaps in my memory.

Always a good route chaps - I'm up in the Peak district doing the Legbreaker on sunday so won't join you.

Plans are afoot for an ACC ToSH quite soon which as you know is in the same area as the hilly 50 so get some practise in.

Mark - It was Whitedown that broke you last time - so aim to get up it on saturday :-)
hills?
i'll be there!

Yeah not many though.

Worth mentioning that some of the surfaces on the descents can be a bit rough. Adrian and I both got a good whack and put rear wheels out of true last time on a newly appeared pothole. In short if you have more than one set of wheels, bring the old ones.

Don't be put off though it's a great route, if there are enough takers we could have different speed groups with a final regroup at the top of Box Hill. Let me know if there's enough interest for this and I'll print off a bunch of route cards.

Just need the sun to shine now. 8)

I'm going to see what the weather's doing and how dry the roads have got. I must say the novelty value of Hal 'tagging along' rather than destroying us on every climb, mrpvt not leading a 28mph train on the flat and Marco on a road bike has a certain appeal.

Some early sandbagging from Mr Green here though - 'But I'm using my training wheels...'

Must have been into the wind then

Gravity is not kind to me. I'll bring my work bike with a get out of jail gear on it :!:
