Looking at the third picture, it looks like Burghardt deliberately folded the wheel to save the dog. When the rim buckles, both of his hands are still on the handlebar when the wheel is pointing 90 degrees to where he's going. Still it's a bit of a dramatic failure.

Hard to say what wheel it is after reading this, maybe even zipps.

I reckon the wheel folding underneath him was actually quite lucky, meant the rider fell from a lesser height thus less injured. Ah well, Zipp, DA, Lightweight, who cares, i think a lot of wheels would have buckled in that situation...
