Am planning to extend my Thursday ride down to ashdown forrest to get some extra miles in and take in a few choice hills along the way and have heard rumours of a brutish 25 percenter somewhere in the area but cant find it on the OS map, does it exist and if it does, does anyone know where it is?

I got lost one day around about Turner's Hill and found something similar down a small country lane. Not sure I could find it again. I do remember that it brought me out at the main road near Ardingly. Not sure if this helps

I was sort of on my way to Ashdown forest at the time. Never got there.

There is one parallel to Ide Hill on the southern side, heading north back up the downs. I think it may be called Yorkshill, narrow (grass in the middle) and v steep.

Paul

The road you want goes from Coleman's Hatch to join the B2026 close to the top of Ashdown Forest just below the top car parks

A beauty of a climb

The Wall is great, in fact I might go there now. How to get there from East Grinstead, cycle through Forest Row and then up to Wych Cross. At the traffic lights just before the Roebuck Hotel and the Car Showroom turn left. Cycle down this long long hill and you will go past Ashdown Park Hotel on your right. When you get to the bottom you will go around a left corner and then you need to suddenly turn right and the road goes down further.

Then a bit further along the road rears up and this is the wall. I believe they had a five day race that went up this hill five times. Yes, they raced up it and I think Tony Kelly was in that race.

There are better ways to get to Wych Cross like going to Turners Hill, straight on towards Ardingly but turn left towards Sharpthorne and then follow that road until you get to same traffic lights at Wych Cross and then go straight on.

Anyhow, I am sure you will find it now.

Cheers

The Wall... to be continued.......

Thanks for that. Ive got a real brute of a ride planned, could be one for a future alt. club run. Out through Bromley on the A21 to Pratts Bottom, no sniggering, up the hill to Knockholt, up to Sunridge, Ide Hill, Yorks Hill then down towards Ashdown, then Friars Gate, the Wall, thanks for the directions, then back up towards Sevenoaks and that nasty climb, I think it might be called Carters Hill thats at the end of the Tour of Kent sportive then home and fall asleep. On the other hand I might stay in and do bugger all or just sit outside and top up the tan!

Just went out that way, it is not sharpthorne, you go through West Hoathly and then after West Hoathly you carry on until you see a sign that says Wych Cross where you turn right. But sounds like you would be approaching from a different direction, sounds like a good route, shame I have to go to work.

Cheers

"you need to suddenly turn right and the road goes down further."

The junction is on the bend and has a 3-way option with a triangular island - you can't miss it - though later you might wish you had
