This Saturday's Club Run (21/7)

Postby Andrew G » Thu Jul 19, 2007 9:10 am

Morning folks,

Just a quick note to everyone to say that if you fancy doing something different, or fancy a new challenge if you went to Brighton the other week, there will be an alternate CR which will do the CTC Hilly 50km loop.

This starts and finishes at Box hill and takes in plenty of hills for 35 miles, so add on to and from Box Hill for your total distance. This is a challenging ride but a very good one.

Graham, Hal and co will probably set a reasonable pace, but I am happy to lead an all comers group. I will wait at the top of each hill to regroup and makes sure everyone gets back to Box Hill for a slab of flapjack/treacle tart or whatever takes your fancy.

If you haven't done this ride before, it is quite a tough route and the cafe stop will not be until we get back to Box Hill (50 miles-ish) so make sure you have a couple of bottles and some food (energy bar or two) to nibble on the way round.

I'll print off some route cards so that people can go at their own pace if they want.
All are welcome, so find out what the small gears on your bike are for. :)

Cheers,

Andrew.

P.S. It will be weather dependant as some of the descents are best not done in the wet, so if it's raining in the morning I won't do it.

Don't think it's as hard/long as the Legs of Steel Stu, but if you hammer it all the way round then it can still be a legs of rubber ride by the end of it.

(No excuses Ian, that's what the Caps Lock button is for  ).

Think you're right Ian this will have to be nudged back.

Your rear wheel often slips on Friday Street in the dry! Was thinking about it on the way home and the approach to Ranmore floods when it rains quite hard so we probably would need wellies just to get to the bottom of the first hill.

The amount of debris and the state some of the descents might be in doesn't bear thinking about.

I'll resurect this a bit later. Could be a better plan anyway as then I can try and promote it a bit at the cafe and see if we can get a nice big group going over. I have a few 10s coming up (will try to make CRs after) but how does 11th August sound to people?
