Isn't that the same Chris Carmichael that worked with LA?

I'm guessing both Autologous and Homologous transfusions may be picked up by a heamatocrit count?

Eurosport mention that the test used in this case [quote]the lab technicians analysed the shape of young and old blood cells and this proves there was a blood tranfusion

In the same article Vino says [quote]I heard that I made a transfusion with my father's blood. That's absurd, I can tell you that with his blood, I would have tested positive for vodka

I guess they can only prove it is homologous by DNA testing and that is what a criminal investigation would require.

Although I am extremely disappointed we have to be clear that ALL riders at this level receive artificial performance enhancement of some sort.
It's not as if they do the tour by simply eating a few bananas, turkey sanwiches and drinking apple juice.

IMHO I think their efforts are heroic anyway.

I don't fancy riding around the club run in the fast group with loads of stiches in both knees.

I feel very unhappy about the riders who are taken advantage of by others.

I'm very cynical: it has to be just the tip of the iceberg.

It has to be political as to which teams are agressively tested and those that aren't (hasn't it always been like that in the tour).

Possibly...

I don't recall Virenque being lampooned as much as he should have been by the French press or Tour organisers for his embarrasingly pathetic behaviour

Although can't remember the full details, so that could be rubbish!

Quite. It is hardly scientific to leak a result without testing two samples first!
Shouldn't two samples be tested simultaneously by two geographically and organisationally separate labs?

It's just GCSE science.
Do the testing, get the results then write a conclusion.
rather than
Create a hypothesis and set out to prove it.

I think that politics is more likely to interfere if the testing process is not solid.

don't get me wrong I don't condone drug taking or illegal medical intervention.
However the testing system is nonsense.
If it is to be taken seriously it should be run along the lines of criminal forensic investigation procedures.

[quote="marco"]It was his mother-in-law in this case, she was alleged to be driving round with a mobile pharmacy so he could self medicate along the way, thus keeping it off the team cars and out of the team hotels (see also Ivan Gotti's dad's camper van where he used to go for a 'coffee' every night)

I think it was more the big boys who were blood doping in those days. Not saying any names incase the fanboys get upset but the coach chris carmichael had perfected this back in 1984 and used it in the LA olympics (that one is watertight!)

As well as recounting the Rasmussen shoebox cows blood story in his book annonymously David Walsh also makes a pretty bold allegation that Disco are using their own bloodbank (autologous) and that it cant be tested for.
Im amazed that vino ran out of his own blood and used someone elses knowing that it was the one test that could be checked.

YHADC!

Surely autologous doping shows up as a higher haematocrit count?

I think the method is that you "jack up" just before the stage - possibly to in excess of the haematocrit level - and then the bloodcount reduces over the course of the stage to the point where it's ok for the next morning's blood test.

(I think there's an assumption in there that blood tests are done in the morning, and that the post-stage doping is urine only).
