Club Run 11th August - Something Different.

Postby Andrew G » Wed Jul 25, 2007 12:09 pm

Hello again folks,

Following my abortive attempt to get as many people on a hill at one time as possible I’m having another go. :D

Sorry to Graham for piggy-backing his idea last time but quite a few of us do this ride occasionally for a challenge, training, something different.

I would like to open this up to everyone to say that if you fancy doing something different, or fancy a new challenge, there will be an alternate CR which will do the CTC Hilly 50km loop on 11th August.

This starts and finishes at Box Hill and takes in plenty of hills for 35 miles (50km), so add on to and from Box Hill for your total distance. This is a challenging ride but a very good one. I think it would make a good alternative for any 17s riders, and also any 15s who are thinking of a step up or like a challenge.

I am happy to lead an all comers group.
I will wait at the top of each hill to regroup and makes sure everyone gets back to Box Hill for a slab of flapjack/treacle tart or whatever takes your fancy.

I would guess that there will be at least one other group with the fast guys in who want to have a blast round, but think it would work well as a more social ride for most where we stuck together, similar to John C’s C-B-C. (PM me if you have any questions about the ride).

If you haven't done this ride before, it is quite a tough route and the cafe stop will not be until we get back to Box Hill (50 miles-ish) so make sure you have a couple of bottles and some food (banana, energy bar or two) to nibble on the way round.

I hope to make the CR this Saturday and Monty has said that he will announce it at the café.

I'll print off some route cards so that people can go at their own pace, or form different speed groups if they want. I know the route as do others in the club so the route cards will be more for back up, or if you want to do your own pace.

All are welcome, so find out what the small gears on your bike are for. :D

If you are up for this please can you let me know either by posting here, PM-ing me, or bending my ear on a CR so I can have a rough idea about what route cards may be needed. No commitment though just turn up and do it, I'll make sure I have a few on me.

Cheers,

Andrew.

P.S. As before it will be weather dependant as some of the descents are best not done in the wet, so if it's raining on the morning (or very heavy the day before) I won't do it, but I’m keeping everything crossed that there is some sun up there due out anytime soon.

Please can you hold fire on this one for now.

 I'd only picked this date because I thought you were looking at the end of August. Oh well, the only other option I have is 25th August, otherwise I'll nudge it back to October.

Or moving it to a Sunday - like the 5th? I could do it then - I have a ghastly work 'awayday' thing on the Saturday

[quote]Or moving it to a Sunday

Looking at Saturdays as I want to try and encourage more club members to give it a go rather than just the usual Hilly 50 crowd. Moving to Sunday would stop a lot of new to the route people doing it as a pass for both Saturday and Sunday is unlikely.
[quote]what about the 4th?

I have a 10 on the 4th with a 6:30 start, will try to do CR after but can't guarantee. I've already sent my entry in for this.

18th August - Would be a possibility but I have another 10 pencilled in for then. I would be prepared to lead the Hilly 50 run instead but would need an idea of numbers (i.e. are there enough "new-to-route" / "all-comers" interested for me to organise). I would want to know by the end of July, and if there is then I won't enter that 10 and could do it on the 18th.

If the C-B-C is a definate for the 11th then I need a vote on the 18th or 25th July for preference. Personally I think the 25th would be better as it would give a normal CR in between Brighton and the hills.

September's out due to the 100CR, and TTs - for me to do and ACC to promote.

hilly 50

Postby Paul on the Pearson » Wed Jul 25, 2007 7:51 pm

I'd prefer the 25th August as I'll be away at a wedding on the 18th and the hilly 50 is a brilliant ride so wouldn't want to miss it, who knows? it might have even stopped raining by then and it'll be good to encourage as many people as possible to give it a go. Every man woman and child for themselves on the actual climbs, but sensible recovery riding inbetween and nobody gets dropped. The more the merrier.

Hi, Andrew

Sounds like fun and something different which is good. :D

However, we can't do the 11th as we're away on hols :? . 4th or 25th are best for us. :)
