End of season I.O.W. Club Run

In the not too distant past I spent a lot of time racing on the Isle Of Wight. There is a permanently marked route which goes round the Island weighing in at around 75 miles and its a classic - taking in all the coastal areas - huge sweeping views over the sea and, surprisingly only one or two real hills.

So here's a club run idea for you

Organise car shares to Lymington on a saturday morning (in the new forest - takes about 2 hours) park up, go over on the ferry with bikes as foot passengers (£14 return). Drop clothes etc at a B&B near ferry port Yarmouth/Freshwatwer. Do the ride: 4-6 hours return, fully signposted so go at your own pace. Return to B&B for a few orange juices on saturday night (the IOW coastal towns are quite lively and have great restaurants). Return home in morning in time for sunday lunch.

For non-drivers/eco-warriors there is the option of the train from Clapham to Brokenhurst and a short ride to the ferry.

Highly reccomended and no hassle at all: Used to do this quite often and its a great weekend.

If the dates OK I'll be up for this little excursion. Have just been checking out the train times from Clapham or Waterloo, theres plenty that'll get you there for 9ish or what ever time you are thinking of getting the ferry. Andrew I might take you up on the offer of a lift though.

Depending on dates, I might be up for this. I might even see if Mrs I wants to come along (for an orange juice anyway).

If we went from Southampton instead of Lymington I could probably persuade my mum to do us breakfast on the way .

Last time I went cycling on the Isle of Wight, mind, the Pope died. Can't remember which one though - it was when they were dropping like flies.

The last time I rode round the Island, I rode to Portsmouth, got the ferry, rode round (but cut off West Wight), got ferry back and rode home afterwards. An early start is necessary
Unfortunately, that was the end of Robert ????? (damn I can't remember his surname) as he did his back in on that ride

After that monu"mental" ride, he suffered from back pains and could only ride short distances, which didn't suit his Audax riding, and he just did less and less. then we didn't see him.

Yes Robert, unfortunatlely he was a bit accident prone.
The last time I saw him was when he came on a club run after another crash.
We were doing thru and off after the dc, when the bunch slowed for uncoming horses. Poor old Robert didn`t.
I patched him up but he needed stitches in an eye.
A passing motorist took him to a&e and that was the last time I saw or heard from him.
a pity as he had a real good engine and could keep going all day.
I think he did a real good 12hour one year.

After all my cycling antics so far this year Mrs A has declared a moratorium .

Oh, and I've just found out my bike has been left in France by the tour company I used for the Etape

Oops, how long is it going to take to get back? I'd try and nail them for some compensation if I were you as that's appalling service and it's not as though it's an old banger of a bike either (your P-X?). Throw in the fact you are a member of a 250 member cycling club and will spread bad words about them and they might come up trumps.

Was it Sporting Tours as I thought they were supposed to be good?

Huw I am up for if the dates are suitable, I would probably drive and may have room for at least one other. I will await you posting a date and give you a definate cconfirmation.

I've said it there, and I'll say it here - I'm up for this. The train is lekker handig for me
