BRIGHTON RIDE - 9.30am group details

Postby huw williams » Tue Aug 07, 2007 8:32 am

For those wanting a quick ride without getting up so early or going as far as Paul T's 8.30 group (which seems to be taking in several European capital cities) we're leaving at 9.30 and going fairly direct.

This will be suitable for riders comfortable with the 19mph group and above on the club run but there are a couple of proper hills so it will feel a lot harder than the CR

Be @ CSS 15 mins before depart - as we're the last group to leave we don't want to be hanging around so prompt departure at 9.30

Familiarise yourself with the route in case of mishap - there are mainline BR stations along the way in case of serious breakdown.

Route: CSS - Merstham - Bletchingly - Outwood - Turners Hill - Haywards Heath - Ditchling - Brighton - Brief Lunch stop - Devils Dyke - Club Run in reverse - works out about 100 miles.

Meet @ Pier @ 12.15. If any of you arrive with time to spare pls check out the pasta restaurant as in last ride (& next doors) on main rd opp. burnt out pier, then come back to pier for photos. Alternatively we may go left down maderia ave & split into several cafs.

Should be a memorable day so as many digi cameras as possible please.

Please post reply here if you are intending to come so we can get an idea of numbers.

Postby Paul on the Pearson » Tue Aug 07, 2007 2:21 pm

I'm in as well. I did the ride on Sunday, bloody hell it was hot! Dithchling and Devils dyke felt like I was riding with my head in an oven. Not checked the weather yet but if its anything like sunday and I hope it will be we're need a few water stops along the way.

Excellent - this is starting to resemble a tidy looking group.

Steady yet respecatble 18-20 on the way down with all hands sharing the work, emphasis on maintaining the momentum - Freedom to attack on the climbs for those wanting a bit of training but regroup at the tops. After lunch we'll see what the masses are doing and head back as far as Slaugham in a group - then its every man for himself up the club run route in reverse :-)

Everybody happy with that???

George, does that mean you're doing off road? The Seven Sisters I know are the hills/cliffs between Seaford and Eastbourne.

When I was about 12 my parents and I walked from Eastbourne to Cuckmere along them. We would have walked into Seaford but we couldn't cross the Cuckmere River and by the time we'd walked inland to the road and bridge, it was just getting too late (and I was knackered)
