I will probably be fine with my all purpose, compact and 12-27 arrangement that i currently have on. Although if I have to do this with luggage I will have to use my alloy Trek. Tempted to change the triple for a compact on that.

But Sean if you don't carefully map this out topographically and contrast the various routes against your gain ratio/gear inch charts just think what could happen ;)

I think my 53 * 39 coupled with 11 - 23 (as per TDF recce) should be fine don't you?
