Ibbo Cake Quest

Postby DavidKennett » Wed Aug 01, 2007 8:48 am

OK so it is now out of it's infancy stage and well on the way to being a reality...

Sunday October 14th 2007 is going to be the first of what will be many "Ibbo Cake Quest" sportives if you like to call these kind of rides that...

There will be three routes/distances aiming to please various levels of ability, all fully signposted starting and finishing in "Ibbo land" more commonly known as Walton on the hill

Event HQ is Walton-on-the-hill Community Centre, Breech lane, Walton-on-the-hill.

Start time 8-10am

"Jaffa Cakes" ride 60kms

"Carrot Cakes" ride 110kms

"Fruit Cakes" ride 150kms

and YES the Lucky Duck and Fanny's Farm shop are on the way

Entries are £10 in advance or £15 on the day. All proceeds will go to the John Ibbotson Fund which has now been given direction and will send a couple of carefully selected aspirant young riders to France each season...

Entries in the post to :

Sue Ibbotson, 2 Mere Cottages, Withybed Corner, Walton-on-the-hill, Surrey KT20 5BE

Please step up to offer your support for what I am sure will be great day
and get in touch with Rohan or Sammy to get hold of promotional posters which you can circulate to promote the event...

Make sure to tell all your friends and get other clubs in the picture through word of mouth , Forums etc etc.

Cheers

Dave I've forwarded the announcement to LCS. PCA's Gordon McCauley has replied.

Dave - this is a great idea and I'm going to do it but is the date confirmed?

I notice it clashes with the Falling Leaves which after last year's CW coverage is going to be bigger and more widely publicised this year. It would be a shame to miss out on as many riders as possible due to a clash so late in the year when there are plenty of free weekends.

Any thoughts?

Ibbo ride

Postby Paul on the Pearson » Wed Aug 01, 2007 12:12 pm

Octobers starting to to look pretty busy what with the Becs hill climb and IOW trip. I thought Oct 7th sounded familiar, it'd be a shame if the two rides clashed as the Ibbo ride looks to be a good event and for a worthy cause. Any chance the dates could be changed?

Sounds good Mr k, any idea of the route(s), would be good to all meet at the same place for a finish- have you also booked a sunny day?

I'm definately up for this but MUST we stop at Fanny's for tea and cake? Oh, go on then!

I presume white oversocks will be la mode du jour?

I'm gonna swing against popular opinion but fannys is the most over rated cake shed ever!

But I am happy to go there- as its a freewheel all the way home.

Silver over shoes ok?

Excellent Dave - count me in.

Nonsense, it's the best. And if you're lucky I'll play the piano in there and we can get free tea and cakes!!!

Although I'll have to play for about 8 hours to earn enough credit to sate Munnery's appetite :-)

It's only overrated if you're not next to the fire in January.

Just bumping this one to the top of the list.

I think there's a thread in the Sportifs and Trips section too - but not everyone looks there. Have we many takers?
