Good hard day's racing today here;s just a quick report of the first stage.

Well the pace was the fastest I have ever experienced and there were groups attacking off the front which really drilled up the pace.

At the finish I had almost 26mph :o

100miles of racing today which is alot further than I'd done before, I did notice in the riders list that no 3rds had been stupid enough to enter.

After 50 miles of pure sweat a group of about 8 had gone away I think there must havebeen just elites and 1st in that one.

They pulled a couple of minutes ahead and everyone in our chase group weren't hanging about either.

We rode one large section then rode a large loop doen to petworth and plaistow we raced this 3 times then went across and rode the Dunsfold loop 3 times to eventually finish in Dunsfold.

The pace was so hot a couple of riders were shelled out the back and I was just about hanging in there and had to dig deep a couple of times but managed to get my strength back.

Then disaster, I hit a huge pothole and the front wheel punctured, I raised my arm and rolled to a halt, both the comissioner and the service vehicle stopped to help.

The gave me my spare front wheel and pushed me away, now I was on my own and I really had to go some to try and get back on.

I was hammering it time trial stylee the car's didn't even give me a tow, then after what seemed like ages I caught a glimpse of the flashing lights of the comissioners car ahead, this gave me some hope so I nailed it harder.

I was eventually overtaking traffic that was held up behind the race and after some hard work managaged to get back on the peloton, I even grabbed a bottle off the service car as I passed.

I was a bit tired so sat in for the next 2 laps then at the last corner I did a solo attack with a couple of miles to go.

I pulled out some fresh air and was out of sight before I knew it, then coming up the final finish hill to Dunsfold my weary legs would take no more capt'n and I had to ease up and roll into the finish at the back of the bunch.

Still happy that I finished and looking forward to 4 more hard day's of racing ahead :D

Blimey, that is awesome. To get back onto an Elite race after a flat is pretty damn impressive.

Cheers

Jeepers, 100 miles with an average of 26mph :!:  :!:

Fantastic George, amazing getting back on after a puncture and then even trying an attack.

Good luck for the remaining days.

Just got the email from SL with day 1 results and George is one of only five 2nd cats racing, all the rest are elites and 1st cats. Two of the 2nd cats were dropped and lost 7 minutes on George in the main bunch. :D

Looks like it'll be a very hard event George, all the best for the remainder.
