Some of you will remember that Alan M posted up a while back about the 'over the hill gang' that meet up on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Well as I had Thursday off work I went out with them. They meet in Betchworth at 10am which is just off the A25 Roundabout after Knights Garden Centre.
Well, the average age was bought down somewhat by my presence and a young lad who had won at Hillingdon the week before. Everyone was very friendly all coming over and introducing themselves and shaking the hand etc.
We set off for a nice steady ride out into the lanes and ended up in a wooded area owned by the National Trust the other side of Dunsfold. Was a great ride with lots of little cut throughs.
After our cake, coffee and chat, most of which seemed to be wingeing about the quality and price of the cakes (think this happens to all men when they get old) we headed back to Croydon area. As we came to Newdigate we even had a sprint for a town sign which was fun.
I headed back with one of the guys who lives in East Grinstead and we upped the pace a bit on the way back. This guy was probably double my age and was ticking along really well.
Had 135km on the clock at a nice and steady pace (for most of the ride). I would recommend this to anyone who has a day off in the middle of the week as they are a great bunch and know some good routes by all accounts and don't go too quick, a good training ride.
Cheers
Marek.....
