Surrey League Revoloutions 5 day - stage 4

Postby George » Mon Aug 20, 2007 6:12 pm

Today for me has been the best day yet. I really enjoyed the racing today and was feeling strong at all times.

I don't know what it is maybe the massages or what but every day I seem to feel better and better and it does get a little easier each day as you go on.

We had about an 80mile road race today starting off from Ockley doing a few different loops around the foothills of Leith hill.

Then the cruel sting in the tail was that we ha a 1 mile ascent right to the car park up the top of Leith hill to finish :o

It almost seemed like a mini stage of the Tour de France today I Leith hill was always looming in the distance and we knew we were heading up the top later, Almost reminiscent of Mont Ventoux

The racing had settled down slightly today but still you had to be on your toes, I couldn't beleive it but about half distance 10 riders stopped for a piss break, we just laughed at them , mind you if I had too I would have been a kilo lighter for Leith hill

Onto the last lap and still some of the riders were pissing as they were going along with their team mates pushing them along whilst they were in full flow :?

BANG right on cue the pace shot up and to stay in the Peloton I was in 53/11 and sprinting flat out in the group, at this point we lost a couple of weaker riders  but oh no not me  I still had good legs ready for the climb.

right turn off to start the final climb riders were going backwards like their brakes were on nut I stayed in the front group.

It just went on and on and yes I was in the small front ring, ringing the bikes neck to stay up there, I was holding it and just had a small gap to the leaders 8)

Then after ages of climbing we saw the 1km to go sign, wow this was a long one, I still felt good and was riding easily within myself, 2 riders up ahead I used them as targets and got up to them, eased up a bit then went full on again.

One guy dropped off and we started the sprint with 200M to go, I couldn't quite do the chap infront but still crossed the line pretty contented that I'd held my own with the big boys :D :D :D

One more day to go bring it on

This is great stuff George - reading your posts. (Almost) all the excitement with none of the pain. Like the Ventoux reference, I must let you kick my butt up that mountain one day.....
