Cycles Dauphin 3 Day prologue stage 1

Postby George » Fri Aug 24, 2007 10:22 pm

Time trial up box hill tonight, I was so hyped up for this it was untrue.

Before the start I had it in my head I was gonna give my all to get hold of that yellow jersey.

I was pretty much the last man away and because a film crew were mucking obout up the zig zag we were delayed by 30 mins so I was almost off when it got dark.

From the line I pulled away got straight into the big ring stood up and honked it all the way.

I knew exactly how to gauge it and what to expect on this climb as we are so accustomed to it every week!

Everytime I felt it was becoming too easy to pedal I knocked it up a gear, I was really flying and grimacing with effort.

I'd never exerted myself so much as this before but I was comfortable that I could just about hold this at 99% to get me to the finish without blowing.

second hairpin I had to ease up a little otherwise I would have overshot the corner  on the exit when I pedaled a couple of revs the wheel span slightly but nothing to lose any time over.

The open section I just kept it sprinting up for all my worth, I didn't sit down at all, I knew this was gonna be a good time

Straight lined the next 2 corners as no cars were coming and absoloutly sprited with every last drop of power I had over the line, crossing the line with a huge shout/cry cos I had so much adrenaline.

Took ages before I could breath normal again and was in serious oxygen debt for 20 mins afterwards.

I think I managed a 4.49 and I heard via Chinese whispers the winner done a 4.40 something, really felt I gave my everything and couldn't have gone any faster whatsoever so am well happy with the ride.

Fingers crossed when we see the results, hopefully I have made the podium or very close so we'll have to wait and see.

Bring on Tomorrow, hey Stuart where were you? you would have easily got a ride as a few riders did not start :?

Cheers Adam and Tony for the Agreeable support and advice.

You did indeed get a 4.49 Georgy boy! Fantastic effort mate...

Winner was indeed in on 4.40 which puts you in at joint 3rd with two other guys, with my mate Dan Sullivan just a second over your shoulder. Watch out for Paragon tomorow...

Work with them...

Fantastic time George. You'll be on the podium as well - although it will be an odd-shaped podium!

Effectively, there will be two riders in yellow tomorrow. One from VC Etoile and one from Sigma Sport. The bunch is likely to put a lot of onus on these teams to close down any breaks. If that's how it works out, I'd leave any chasing to them! With so many riders in contention and the field so tightly packed, I suspect that nothing will be allowed to succeed tomorrow - although you never can be sure. It will make for a good day's racing. As Adam suggests, I'd definitely try to work an agreement with the Paragon boys such that you become one combined team (although no one else need know that).

Brilliant result George keep going mate... I hear that London Dynamos are supposed to have 16 riders in the race and have spilt in to two teams Whites and Blues:Cyclefit and Dynamos. It should make team tactics interesting :D

Really?

George pooped by the cafe before today's stage and said he thought yesterdays TT was 30 seconds quicker/shorter than that used by ACC for Cycling+ table. That means that he knocked about 40-45 seconds off his PB for that one :!:

Shorter how? The Surrey league course is 1.5miles and the one that everyone does is the same distance...The surrey league course is a flat once your past the cafe to the last car park where it finishes so you can pick up quite a bit of speed.

They don't start from the beginning of the Zig Zag. It starts from the car park I think.

Yes I know that they start much further up by the first hairpin on Zig Zag road.
