Chipped paint

Postby adrian » Sun Sep 02, 2007 9:31 am

This morning I noticed that a bit of paint has chipped off my top tube :x What to do? Do bike shops have touch-up sticks or the like?

Is your frame red? If it is you can come round and chip the right sized shape off my frame. I have about a zillion chips already so another won' make any difference.

It was that bloody gravel after Merstham :-(

Training group went through Merstham at 30mph hit the roadworks and it was like someone fired a scatter gun at us - that brought the speed down fast enough I can tell you

Titanium bikes are impervious of course :-)

Huw I heard you verbally requested the speed of the training group to slow down

If you can't take the heat stay out the kitchen

The speed was comfortable enough - it was the ice-rink surface that was the problem - I could see all these stones flying around The Shadow's nice clean Ridley and thought "don't crash, don't crash"

On the way back a guy in a black ferrari convertible was going through there at 5mph with all these stones pinging off his bodywork - he had a face longer than a milkman's round - hillarious

Hey George - what say I photoshop a pic of you into the 100+ picture - tragic that you weren't there

Yes can you do me flying in the Chris Board-man hour record Superman style in the sky above the pine shop

I'll have pop down to the cafe in the next couple of weeks to have a banana and a cuppa with the lads.

You could try a bodyshop as they can colour match and would be ale to give you a little pot to take away to touch up any future ones as well. I know it works with cars, but never tried with bikes. You could ask them of speak to a frame resprayers as they may be able to do the same.

If the chip is near the seat tube depending on the position you may be able to cover it with a small name sticker?

Cheers, chaps. Maybe I could also go to OYB first to see if Cannondale do touch-up pots in their bike colours.

Friday is madman day on CW.

Its the day when all the "enthusiastic" old school riders phone up with "great advice" for about 4 hours on a variety of unimportant cycling issues

Anyone one guy recently phoned up, I was unlucky enough to pick up the phone and the conversation went like this

Huw: "Hello, can I help?"

Punter: "Nail Varnish."

H: "I beg your pardon?"

P: "Nail Varnish."

H: That's what I thought you said. What about it?"

P: "Chipped the paintwork on my frame, took it to the shop. 'Hundred quid to respray it' said the man. Went to the chemist, bought some bright red nail-varnish. Good as new for a couple of quid. Bet your reader's don't know about that eh?"

H: "I'm sure I haven't seen many Colnagos repaired in that fashion your right."

P: "Well now you know. Want to know something else? If your carbon seat post gets stuck, get one of those gas bottles from a camping shop and..."

At this point I put the phone down before my frame as well as my ear started getting bent

So there you go Adrian "Nail Varnish"

[quote]Where is it exactly?

I said top tube earlier but it's on the down tube, right by the word Cannondale. It's from a section that's in sort of metallicy, flecky blue - I can see I'm going to have hours of fun at Selfridge's beauty department

don't know about metallic blue but i have fixed small chips in black and white bikes with touch up sticks for cars from halfords. a bit like a lipstick but much harder wax type stuff. also have used coloured turtle wax car polish to keep overall colour sharp...

Some good motherly advice there Andrew.

If your bike ever ends up in lost property it'll be easily identifiable as yours, and there'll be no mistaking your bike for someone else's after the cafe stop.
Brilliant why hasn't someone thought of this earlier??!!! :D

Well, I never did.

Turns out Cannondale do touch-up pots, with applicator to boot. Eight quid a pot.

Huge relief all round.
