Don't know about the Toll Road but the main road, A39 Porlock Hill, is a real B...... mostly 25% all the way up and it's long. Went up it this morning.....in a car, impossible on the bike, and I can now understand why they are going up the Toll Road that's said to be easier.

Staying down here so I will be able to watch the tour climb Porlock and then nip back to Taunton for the finish.

Toll road is fairly steep, but a steady gradient (nice if you get your rhythm, horrible if you don't), and nicely shaded.

It's here. The main road is the red one, the toll road is the yellow one.

If they use the toll road, who will pay the toll for the am cars? If I remember correctly (the last time I rode up it was about 10 years ago), bikes were about 10p, cars have to pay a bit more.

Whichever way they go, I wouldn't be surprised if the gradient catches a few people out. We may see a few walking like they did a few years ago on Rosedale Chimney.

(edited for improved memory halfway through a meeting)

The Toll roads a great climb up through the trees, its few miles long or seemed it, but not that steep, but there's a few nasty little kicks on a couple of the hairpins along the way. Do you reckon the bloke at the top will stop 'em all and demand 30p each or what ever it costs to ride on it?

30p...you're behind the times. The charge for a bike is amazingly £1.00. Pedestrians go free. So the answer must be to get off the bike before the toll and walk through.
