Slightly more modest aim as this was only my second 25, a new PB.
This is on the same course as the Addiscombe 25 and has a couple of legs out to turn roundabouts that I found a bit of drag.
Didn't go too badly but cut the start a bit fine so didn't have as longer warm up as I'd have liked.
Didn't want to blow so started fairly steady so I could speed up a bit towards the end. Checked my watch at 10 miles and realised I'd started maybe a touch too steady
so picked the pace up.
There were a couple of times where the road dragged up that I found a bit of a slog, but some of the flat sections were great and I was keeping a reasonable pace up.
Jon had started 7 minutes behind me, and knowing he's bloody quick I expected to see him towards the end. Approaching the final turn I checked behind for traffic and moved over, did the turn, and then headed back to the finish. This is a slight drop and you can see quite a long way ahead. I was just thinking "blimey Jon's not in sight" when he came gliding past effortlessly

This helped as it was at 22 miles and finally gave me someone to chase. I'd never seen my minute man, and had been passed by 3 or 4 rockets that had vanished quite rapidly. Jon obviously pulled away but with only a few miles left I buried myself to keep him as close as possible and used the sight of him ahead to drag me up a slight incline, cheers Jon.
Final sprint for the finish and relief.
Back at HQ and a new PB of 1:07:04 knocking 2m35s off my previous time, so all in a good weekends work.
Had a chat to Carole when she finished and she was happy as she said she'd just got under 1h15m (evens) on her first ever 25. Results below and as you can see she just squeaked in under 1h15

I guess we were all inspired by the start of the ToB!! A great set of times posted on a good day for TTing. Someone better tell the Bec that the Rawson is coming home

I think there is even better news to follow from the SCCU but I'll wait for final confirmation and leave you guessing for now....

This was my one year anniversary of getting the racing bug again. This time last year I did a 1.01.23 on my road bike with no tri-bars. My PB for 25 going into this was 59.45. This was done at the beginning of the year and on a slower course.
It just goes to show the power of the mind really. I felt good warming up and even mentioned to a disgruntled (quite rightly) Tamar at the start that I it would be a PB day.
Started off steady as usual and then from the second roundabout at the top of the first drag I just put the hammer down. I had promised myself before that I would try slightly bigger gears, but only if I could turn the gear well. After the first turn at about 6 miles I just found myself hammering along. This seemed to set the tone for the rest of the ride. Everything was done in one gear bigger and the difference in speed was amazing. I even had to undertake an artic on the Rusper roundabout on the way back as it was going too slow
I was off at 72 and had passed a few riders on the way but my minute man was eluding me and gave me a good carrot. I got him at the top of a drag with about 5 miles to go, hammered to the last turn went around hammered off and started up the last drag. At this no 71 came past. Talk about a red rag to a bull, I gave him a couple of minutes, enough time for me to gird my loins, so to speak, stuck it in the 16 cog and rode by him to the top of the last drag. It was then balls out to the finish. I don't think I managed to pull that far away from him as at the finish I beat him by a minute and 1 second.
I was definite I had done a PB just on the my perception alone but to be rewarded with a 58.24 and a PB by 1.21 was the icing on the cake.
If only it was always like that

.It might have looked that way from where you were sitting, but it didn't feel like it from where I was.
Pretty good day for the agreeable testers. Four under the hour, PBs for Dominic, Mark, Andrew, Doug & Carole, and 2nd team (I think) for Rich, Dom & Me.

Great Agreeable turn-out to bring home the Rawson Shield in style. Will let you know more about the SCCU lunch and presentation as soon as I have details.
I echo the congrats above to all the excellent pbs - especially impressed with Carole on her first 25. A storming time.
Sadly the day wasn't quite so successful for me. Like Saturday's 10, I was way off the pace and then to add a final insult I 'did a Richard' and dropped my chain on the last drag which resulted in several seconds trying unsuccessfully to flick it back on before eventually coming to a standstill, dismounting and putting it in place manually.
Oh well - some rides are good, some rides are not so good.
