Training group started at a blistering pace today (as usual) and then seemed to carry on just the same way, (oh well nothing different then). We got to Leigh and Brian R said to me he was cooked, and dropped off the back of the group. As I was feeling pretty tired from a hard week, the urge to jack as well got too strong and a couple of minutes later I pulled over and waited for him. We then took a nice steady ride via Partridge to the cafe. Very enjoyable
Sat in the sun at the cafe and waited for everone else to come in, while enjoying a nice relaxed cup of tea and piece of cake.
As has become a bit too common lately I set off from the cafe near the back and had to TT it again to get on to the group
Somehow the group split big style. I didn't know this until I made my way to the front to do some work. As I looked up I saw a couple of riders off the front. As it happened these were riders who had dropped off the back of the breakaway. So I set off at full tilt to catch them, but as I neared and looked in to the distance I could see what had happened, and the culprets. Ian, Alan an co. Damn this was going to be a big chase. Head down ar$e up I carried on at full tilt dragging a good few with me. As I neared, my legs tired and the rest came round me. We all joined together as we came to the road thru the estate.
On to the climb thru the golf course, some of us 'chasers' made our way past Ian to a shout of "here they go now, the bloody wheel suckers"
eh! Err not on this occation, I've just been chewing bar tape.
On to the Merstham drag there was a good size group going along at a good steady pace. I was sitting in the middle waiting for the breakaway but by half way up we were all still together. I then decided to go for it and see what I had left in the tank.
Bloody hell, that must have been the quickest I've ever been up the drag. Out of the saddle I sprinted off the front and just kept going, my legs felt really strong. By the top my heart rate was 98%, but I had a good lead so eased off a tad to lower it. Downhill now and I kept pushing hard to the Hooley lights where I eased off till the others caught me up. Adam shot past first calling me to go with him and get away again. 2 minutes later we were both blowing out of our backsides leaving the rest of the group to bowl past us, led by mr long beard (sorry dont know name but boy he's a good rider).
Another enjoyable day in the saddle
