Training group started at a blistering pace today (as usual) and then seemed to carry on just the same way, (oh well nothing different then). We got to Leigh and Brian R said to me he was cooked, and dropped off the back of the group. As I was feeling pretty tired from a hard week, the urge to jack as well got too strong and a couple of minutes later I pulled over and waited for him. We then took a nice steady ride via Partridge to the cafe. Very enjoyable :D

Sat in the sun at the cafe and waited for everone else to come in, while enjoying a nice relaxed cup of tea and piece of cake.

As has become a bit too common lately I set off from the cafe near the back and had to TT it again to get on to the group

Somehow the group split big style. I didn't know this until I made my way to the front to do some work. As I looked up I saw a couple of riders off the front. As it happened these were riders who had dropped off the back of the breakaway. So I set off at full tilt to catch them, but as I neared and looked in to the distance I could see what had happened, and the culprets. Ian, Alan an co. Damn this was going to be a big chase. Head down ar$e up I carried on at full tilt dragging a good few with me. As I neared, my legs tired and the rest came round me. We all joined together as we came to the road thru the estate.

On to the climb thru the golf course, some of us 'chasers' made our way past Ian to a shout of "here they go now, the bloody wheel suckers"

  eh! Err not on this occation, I've just been chewing bar tape.

On to the Merstham drag there was a good size group going along at a good steady pace. I was sitting in the middle waiting for the breakaway but by half way up we were all still together. I then decided to go for it and see what I had left in the tank.
Bloody hell, that must have been the quickest I've ever been up the drag. Out of the saddle I sprinted off the front and just kept going, my legs felt really strong. By the top my heart rate was 98%, but I had a good lead so eased off a tad to lower it. Downhill now and I kept pushing hard to the Hooley lights where I eased off till the others caught me up. Adam shot past first calling me to go with him and get away again. 2 minutes later we were both blowing out of our backsides leaving the rest of the group to bowl past us, led by mr long beard (sorry dont know name but boy he's a good rider).

Another enjoyable day in the saddle :D

Tried to race today. Not good when you turn up at a race and you feel like you normally feel when you have just finished a race. Then the organiser tells us that he has moved the finish to the top of Leith Hill. Great, I have my heavy Cosmic wheels on.

Did a few laps of the course, legs felt awful. Attacked off the front, got caught then I just gave up. Legs were not in it and nor was the mind today.

I will never make a stage racer, but I think yesterdays club run must have been uber hard as normally I can race the next day and at least feel alright.

Anyhow, am going to win next weeks race instead so it does not matter.

Cheers

Stu - I would give you the moral victory if you had done some work for the 50 miles before going to Box Hill. You should try it sometime it might make you fitter and then you might have an actual victory.
Perhaps we should find another route back if people are going to save themselves for a 6min piece.

Marek - not surprised you were tired. I definately got the feeling you were on a mission yesterday. If the finish line at Charlwood is the white fence, I reckon you did a Zabel.

No way matey, I had you fair and square, I even had plenty left in the bag but did not want to deflate your morale too much so thought I would slow up a bit to give you some hope.

Anyway, you got a free ride all the way to the finish as I had done all the work to catch Stu, there was no way after that I was going to let you come around.

Next week is my last race of the season, the week after I am off to the Rugger, but after that it will be clubruns every week, so I am sure there will be plenty more opportunities for a re-match.

At least there were no team tactics this week, but I suppose if the shadow had been there it would have been a completely different story.

See you in a few weeks.

Cheers

[quote="AJC_Prima Donna Sprinter"]Well to be honest, it was just nice to be back.

'I may not be able to sprint, but that don't mean im not getting there first  '

And so as soon as i moved he was stuck to my wheel like glue. Fair play to him. So i gave him an armchair tow (at 30mph) to the finish. We did indeed blow out all the afore mentioned wheel suckers 8) Job Done!

It wasnt me who had their hands in the air as if they nearly won Milan San Remo.

Stu - you were so far back to tell anything. Watch out who you side with boy.

Moral victory for Stu

Delusional victory for Marek

Shallow victory for Adam

Bring it on.

Just wondering, who's on your side!?
