North Hampshire RC 25

Myself and Steve Davies were down to ride this 25 on the Bentley course on Saturday afternoon. Terry Hill was down as 8th reserve, and I think either didn't get a ride or declined.

I had a few targets to go at in this race:
Under the hour - benchmark time.
59:05 course PB.
58:14 season's best.
56:59 all time PB.

Not a perfect afternoon as there was a bit of wind about, but nothing to grumble about as it was warm and dry in mid September.

A fairly uneventfull ride for me, I caught a couple of people on their second lap when I was on my first lap, and only got caught by the zero seed behind me (I was a 6). Farnham roundabout was a bit dodgy as usual - cars in both lanes in front of me were slowing right down, so I went up the middle and nipped onto the roundabout into a gap in the traffic.

57:50 was my finishing time; a season's best and within a minute of my PB, so I'm pretty pleased with that.

If I read the results board right (it was a bit like the bottom row at the optician's), Steve did a 57:19 maintaining his current good run of results.

Well done you guys. Seemed like a pretty good weekend for you Jon.

I was gutted I couldn`t ride, although I was a reserve, think I might have
got a ride. The p.m. weather in Woking was just about perfect. Have to wait till next year for pb.

After much squinting at the result board I can confirm that Jon had my time correct (though the initail posting was wrong) - 57:19 an all time PB :D and not too bad for an ageing asthmatic. This was my last ride of the year and it certainly makes up for the earlier frustrations.

There was a farly light wind (southerly I think) and I found the going even all the way round. Once again I had a pretty much flawless ride with no hold-ups at the turns. There was a little irony in the ride as I caught my (seeded) minute man who happens to be the guy I've been borrowing the disk wheel from in recent weeks. Of course, after the event I did the decent thing and bought the wheel.

The problem I now have is what to do next season - it's hard to believe I can go any faster than this!
