lap-top for travelling

Postby Alan M » Wed Sep 26, 2007 3:26 pm

I am off traveling soon and am thinking of taking a lap-top. I would want to access wireless internet, play DVDs and music, download photos, use my email, and talk on Skype with a web cam. I want it to be cheap, light, robust and not too flashy.

Any ideas?

Ever heard the Cheap/Light/Strong... Pick two conundrum?

I have an IBM, not sure how cheap they are as I blagged it from work, but so far, touch wood, it had been faultless.

Where you off to anyway?

Many thanks for the prompt replies. Adam - am off to Perú for a couple of months at an altitude of 11,000' so will return with some interesting blood cells and hopefully nothing catching!

i've been looking at laptops at SterlingXS: http://www.sterlingxs.co.uk/

like Morgan, end of line/refurbs -- they have quite a few ultraportable lightweight machines a couple of years old -- i was also looking for cheap/light/robust.

haven't yet gone through with the sale so can't vouch for them.

Sounds good Alan, My best friend is going to Chile in the new year to work for six months as part of his degree. I fully intend to go out there for a couple of weeks sometime, im working on the 'it can be my 21st birthday present' with my parents at the moment!

Happy travelling...
