So, not just a sprinter huh?

Kicked the Shadow's ass, and a few others who should have perhaps been kicking mine...

...oh and young Stu, (I passed him on my way back up the climb, he waived a L shaped finger at me, and said loser),

Well what can i say, you beat a man with a dodgy shoulder, who's riden barely 10 hours in the past 6 weeks. By two seconds! Is that the best you can do, I didn't even warm up! Pah, fat boy!

Yes thats right, as a student getting up in the morning is always a chore. This morning was by no means an exception. I ended up driving to the hill climb, arriving at 10.01, my original start time was 10.03  Luckily Jon had opted to delay the start by 10 mins, a god send. I actually had enough time to get my bike out and ride down the hill. So i arrived on the start line at 10.12 which gave me enough time to watch young Sam Camden off before my own three minutes of leg and lung burning 'glory'.

The ride itself is pretty much consigned to the depths of my memory that never get recalled. All i really remember is catching Sam just before the hairpin, sorry! You looked very disapointed at the end Sam, don't be, your time was still a lot better than many 'full-grown men'. You would have beat Paul Tunnel if he were there for example, give it a few years and you'll be catching me!

Oh, and of course Joyce was standing by the roadside shouting encouragement to all.

At the top, whilst trying to quell the taste of blood in my mouth from 3 minutes of unadulterated, totally unprepared hell, I managed to enquire about my time.

Tim was reluctant to say but said he thought i was 3.04. What!?

Could i really have gone 19seconds quicker than last year despite the longer period off before hand?

Well apparently yes, im quite pleased with that. Definately reckon i could go 15seconds quicker and challenge Mr Kelly... If i were properly fit of course, mind you this time next year he might be properly fit too

So, in my haze earlier i forgot to thank Jon, Tim and of course Joyce for running the event. I thoroughly enjoyed it, i think :?

Oh, one last point, Paul H was too scared to ride. After bigging it up on the forum all week his feeble excuse was 'im not on form'! B0!!0cks i thought, and I am!?!?!? And where was Sylv?!? And finally, Paul (H), did you check that you only beat me that one measley second last year!?

And one last point, definately done here, one to Paul T...

Check the results from last year, read 'em and weep!

The End

...I enjoyed that!

Adam have you been drinking from Tony's bubbly.

Sorry for DNSing, really had to get my car sorted for next weekend's 12h race in Norfolk, I did text Tim C early this morning as couldn't find Jon's number, not sure if he got it though. Let me know if I owe anything for the entry.

Well done Tony good to see the form is coming back.

Hi George,

Good to hear from you. Hope that your trip away was fun. Your Boras actually didn't get used. However, I'm sure you'll be piloting them to some winning results again before long.

The tight bearings on my new wheels got a clean bill of health on Friday (the end caps were a little tight - the bearings were fine). With light tyres and inner tubes they are indentical in weight to your wheels. So, I thought thought it was cheeky not to use my own - especially as it was wet.

Good times from lots of people this year, despite a very wet course. Well done to all. Big thanks to the organisers too.

Next year, I hope we can get a few more out. More supporters help the times too. I think we can all do our bit to promote the event more within the club next year.

Snoop - didn't see what happened to you. I suspect you went a bit too far in to the red on the way up. I hope you feel more normal again now.

Tony,

You've got my curiousity now, what wheels, tyres and tubes did you use?

Hopefully I will have a bash next year. Unfortunately I was on baby sitting duties today :(

Oh dear, oh dear oh dear

I had big doubts about today - I've not felt right since I got back, the ground keeps wobbling neath my feet as if I'm on a boat. At the start I v nearly backed out but....I'm so easily led

Anyhoo - I had a "moment" and had to jump off quick sharp and have a sit down. Not good. Tried to ride up slowly but just couldn't get on. Walked up with Jon at the end.

Still - there's always next year. Well done to all - a pig of a hill and not a nice morning.

Cheers - Snoop

Adam - I just didnt fancy it and just wanted to do a CR today. I've competed under huge pressure at a level you could only dream about and wasnt scared then so there is no way I would be worried about a club hillclimb. :)

I did make a couple of what you may call "bigging it up" comments but I think you win that crown by a long way

Well done anyway and everybody else.

Damn, I really got my 'arse kicked' today :)
Me, a 40 year old. Me, who is 2lbs shy of 13 stone, who has always hated hills, who has never proclaimed to be any good up them. Me who always gets dropped when the gradiant gets above 4%. Me who struggles breathing in the damp cold air, especially with no warm up. Me, I got my arse kicked today - I'm gutted - I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight

I had totally forgotten about today's hill climb until a text from Brian R on thursday reminded me of the fact that I had, for some bizarre reason, agreed to enter this insane (for me) idea of fun

With the rain pi$$ing down as I looked out the window this morning, and then watching my youngest daughter opening her birthday presents, the thought of cycling over to Ranmore made me feel quite nauseus. Time ticked by and my wife said "aren't you going". Couldn't chicken out now, even if I wanted to, so shoved the bike in the van and tanked it down the A217 and then on to Dorking and up to Ranmore.

With only Tony in the car park and no signs of any bikes down the road towards the climb, I hoped it had been called off. Then Stu and Hal came along with numbers on their backs, so I reluctantly got the bike out and put my shoes on. My thorough warm up of 200m took me to where the numbers were at the finish point of the climb. I asked if I could do the run in the reverse direction but Jon was having none of it

Down the hill to the start - flippin eck, this is quite steep isn't it  . I know I've been down it before but I've never been down it knowing that, within 2 or 3 minutes time, I'd be racing (if you can call it that) back up it.

My minute man was a dns, so it seemed a long wait till my off. I'd told myself numerous times not to start too quickly, so as I pulled away from the line and up the first 200m it was inevitable that I would start off too quickly :x. I then had to knock it up a sprocket or 5 :). It was then I realised that my mum had kept a secret from me for 40 years. My legs are really made of wood . Well it bloody felt like it anyway, such a horrible feeling. Obviously a consequence of not warming up.

I nearly ground to a halt, and as I saw Joyce up ahead on the hairpin, I was going to stop with her and watch the rest of the nutters (sorry, riders), fight their way to the top. But as I got to her she gave a huge shout of encouragement. "Go go go that's it, out the saddle, push push push". So what could I do but to keep going? Thanks Joyce :)

I crossed the finish line totally blowing out my backside. I felt sick for about 25 mins after. Without doubt the hardest 3 1/2mins I've ever had on a bike. Oh, by the way, I'm still devistated that I got my arse kicked.

Thanks to Jon, Tim and Joyce for organising :D

Adam, if you spent as much time riding your bike as you do ribbing everyone else on the forum and, as Paul says, 'biggin it up', you might be a half decent bike rider. I reckon you should start letting your riding do the talking and when we see results from this extra time spent on the bike then you can start 'givin it large' or preferably not then either
Oh, I did a 23.49 for the Holmwood 10 the other week. Can't remember what your best time is - could you let us know

well, good to read about it, sorry Jon, I didn't go this year, on the way home friday night my bike skidded out from under me on a wet manhole cover and I came down on the same elbow that was still healing from my July crash so it put me off going. But as punishment, and feeling better, I did the long route of the Ride of the Falling Leaves today plus a bit extra as went off course twice.

Well done Tony, a good time, I'll have to get myself over there some day and time myself up it.
