ACC Road Race - Saturday October 27th 2007

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

It's alright for these spotty kids  just wait until they're fat and nearly forty and see how fast they are then

Looks like the 4th cats is the right place for me, will never be able to cope with these super-fast 3rd cats

Just four weeks to go, how's it going peeps? I got a couple of PM's from novice riders re training for the road race but don't wanna try the faster groups on the club run.

You only need a couple of hours a week to get in shape assuming you're comfortable with the 17s already. Try doing two weekly time trial efforts of ~ 30-40 minutes. Throw in a few sprints while you'll at it and Robert's your Dad's bro!

PS anyone who has any bike goodies they're willing to donate as Racing Prizes let me know via a PM. Cheers!

As Toks is organising, and is currently a 2nd claim member, personally I think it would be rude to say no. That said, no prizes for 2nd claimers.

Does that seem fair?

Yeah I was hoping for some guidance on this one. I think the answer is NO! but then we have to make an exception for Marek obviously cause he's been Champ for the last two years and should rightfully be allowed to defend his title. I don't think any other 2nd claimers are taking part. Anyway its up to the ACC comittee i guess

I will raise as an agenda item for next monday's committee meeting.

Personally I think 2nd claimers should be allowed to take part but should not be eligible for any prizes/trophies.

The results would be twofold: an overal list of all positions and then the ACC 1st claim position which would be the list that prizes are taken from.

Yeah thats would be good. For example Gordon M (PCa) came 3rd in the Elite british national road race but because he's not british the 3rd place went to one of the downing brothers. Perhaps all 2nd claimers should only be allowed to race in the 2/3s race

As I said before my vote says yes, but no prizes. Were not exactly going to be having a problem with the fields being too big so adding a few more would just make a nicer sized field, we'd only be talking a handful of riders at most.

PS. Steve, just glue yourself to Keith's wheel and hang on for dear life until the sprint.

That's always been the case - there is no need for discussion.

so it will... half term that week, so i'll have plenty of time

we'll take the gear restriction for Youth A right, like in the ToB support races.

Paul, how about we have a Youth race, then I won't need to embarass you? (mind u it cud be vica versa) bcos i wudnt need to cheat to keep up, bcos I wud win a solo victory out of a total 1 rider participating.

The problem with second claimers has always been insurance in the past. BC had special rates for 'club' events but insisted that second claim members were not allowed to ride. I don't know whether that's still the case?

We've always allowed second claim members to ride in events where it's not been a problem (mainly the club TTs) subject to preference for 1st claim members and no prizes to 2nd claimers.
