If you're the 24mph av Keith, it would be great if you raced with the 2/3s :D

[quote="Dombo"]How long are the laps and how many for a Novice?

There must be a monster ability gap between novice and Cat 4 and, as someone who could barely gasp a conversation with Alex while tapping out a brisk 22mph at the head of the 18s on the Saturday CR, I'm nervous of further embarrassment.

Dombo - not always any difference between a novice and a 4th Cat. You're a 4th cat as soon as you buy a licence from British Cycling, you need no more ability than to write a cheque.

Some 4th Cats are very good racers and strong (Kieran, if he's still a 4th), a novice could be another George/Paul/Stu in their first race and kick everyone's backside.

If you were riding on the head of the 18s you are easily good enough to take part in this race. If the pace picks up and the race splits, and you find you can't keep up with the head of the field don't worry. You'll probably find you aren't the only one and can form your own group to work together. You never know, if the pace eases at the front your group may get back on. If not you can still enjoy your own race - if you go to Palace then you'll see plenty of riders who get dropped but still enjoy their racing.

If it's your first race then it will give you a chance to find out if you like it for free.

I don't want to be too much of a pain, but I will be, I am going to take artistic licence to the 2nds/3rds and move a few people up. Some of the riders in the 4ths and Novices are experienced road racers or have engines the size of concorde so I think they should be moved up a category. I think that is Irish Kevin, so you should go up. Kieran, I am pretty sure you can keep up with the likes of Hal, Stu, Sylv and myself being a regular racer. Grahame and Andrew need the challenge as they can probably sit in and then outsprint most of us:

2nd/3rds...........................4ths&Novices
Hal......................................Paul On Pearson
Stu Merckx Man..................
Marek.................................Ajay
Sylv....................................Chris Kay
Steve the Shadow..............
Andrew green.....................
Kieran ...............................Sean Rapha man
Kevin .................................Mo Jaffer
Keith ..................................Kasper
Grahame ..........................
..........................................RobC
..........................................Adrian
..........................................tom nobes
..........................................Jon Avery
..........................................
..........................................Michelle Le Brun

What do you reckon, fair?

i was thinking the same thing marek. there are a lot of very strong people in the 4ths and novices that are pretty much going to get the top 3 guaranteed.

moving some of the strong 4ths and novices over to the 2,3s leaves the race wide open in the 4/novices, and the people moved over stand as good a chance as any of the 2,3s victory, also making it more of an intresting race...

I think Marek is just trying to weaken the field to try and make sure he can retain his title.

In your haste to rip our legs off you forgot Daniel who's riding like a demon at the moment. As Sean says Chris is strong as an ox, and RobC ain't no slouch either. Make sure you have the correct Grahame Marek, I think you are thinking of Graham O, whereas I believe Grahame is our Beastway riding, duck tape guru.

No, no, no, no, no! Help Toks my licence says 4th with nil points, the big boys are ganging up again.

I'm sure there could be a prize from Huw's bountiful and generous sack for first novice in the 4/novice race.

But, but, but... I've hardly been on the bike for the last few weeks, have developed a serious pasta addiction whilst in Italy, am the "wrong" side of 41 and (most of all) wanted a chance of getting a trophy

Also, the finish at Hillingdon is up a rise isn't it? I've got no chance when gravity goes even slightly the wrong way.

I'm flattered, but surely you jest about me being being able to mix it with the 2nd/3rds group over any distance?

Why not run the 4th/novices race first, have a bit of a gap/cup of tea/slice of cake then give the top few finishers from that race the option to sit in on the 2nd/3rds race?
